Old Speckled Hen
I'm visiting my daughter in the London suburbs and though the sky is clear there are no stars and certainly no milky way of home but I've just watched two young foxes playing in the road and I can hear the stags bellowing in Bushy Park a stone's throw away and the skreech of a female Tawny in the trees across the road. The clatter of the police helicopter has given way to the rumble of a distant train, the shoom of the nigh empty night bus and the clip clop of a stiletto booted young girl wending her way home. I do miss my city sounds ..........sigh Edited October 19, 2009 by Guest
chickencam
We live by a main road that is only quiet on a Sunday evening or late like now, and we can't sleep when it is quiet, we are so used to the constant swoosh of cars. We know without looking out of the window if it is raining because the cars make so much more noise. Hope you sleep soon, I am off now after helping my OH with a big paperwork job most of the evening.

Old Speckled Hen
Just as well Lewis. If you're going to be a young vet you should get used to it. Get some sleep now or when you're an older vet Nite nite
Lesley
I hope you all got to sleep in the end. I was awake and should have come to join you! We are rural and have no neighbours but border a main road - we know when Autumn is here and all the leaves are falling as we can hear the traffic noise - and we can see the street lights on the island so can only watch the night sky with our backs to the road. I never sleep if we're in a city.

Cinnamon
We are rural too - no street lights,no traffic at night & when I sleep away from home I really miss the dark & quiet. The only thing that wakes me is hooting owls & those darn Muntjack Deer which make a horrific noise
The Dogmother
I can sleep through most things, but usually use earplugs when I'm in a city. My folks live on a main road, and despite the trees in their front garden screening most of the noise, it is still quite noisy. The sounds haven't changed since I was a child though. Our road at home is mainly quiet and I can hear the owls in the park at the end of the road, just the occasional drunk reeling homewards. Not bad when you consider that I live just 5 mins walk from the town centre.

Happy chickens!
I nearly switched the pc on at 4.30am but didn't think anyone would be up! The blasted smoke alarm chose 4am to start bleeping that batter was flat, and it took me half an hour to unscrew it, by which time i was wide awake! Sleep well tonight, I know I will! How annoying is that? Why can't it tell you that it is low on battery at two in the afternoon!
The Dogmother
The only thing that stops me sleepign is a poorly Rosie - I had her in my bed the other night - thrashing around like a demented octopus. I don't think I slept after that!
