Janty
I was given a little incubator and my so called friend sowed the seed that it was a shame to waste it. My sensible side said no but my silly side said OOOOOooooooooo. The silly side won. So, meet my little pekins, Pumpkin, Hubble and Bubble... They hatched last Tuesday and Wednesday. A friend at a local farm is going to take any boys as they will be unrelated to her pekins and she is quite keen to get her hands on a Wheaton pekin boy. Before anybody shoots me about the time of year, we are already set up for rearing chicks in the polytunnel after we rescued the lorry crash chicks last winter. They will have a nice eglu set up in there with a heater, etc. However, until then, they will stay in my rooder units on the underfloor heating under a heat lamp in the conservatory (my OH is understanding). Actually, he has fallen in love with them.

Griffin
Lovely chicks I need some more Pekins too, Custard has converted me Like you, I can hatch in the winter and this morning I've made my mind up to hatch some more dinners and a few Pekins. I want to test something on my incubator before deciding to bin it finally and investing in an Rcom.

craftyhunnypie
Well done Janty - they are gorgeous. Love their names. I don't shoot anyone for hatching this time of the year. I do the same. I think as long as you are experienced, know what you are doing & source good quality eggs from a reputable place - then do it. Obviously chicks in Winter will be under heat a lot longer & will probably need to go in a heated shed over Winter. But I am more than certain that you are tops in all the above! Is that the Brinsea brooder thingy that looks like a yellow barrel? It looks really good & much bigger than I ever thought it was. ooooo gorgeous little pekin fluffy feet.
