Friends living near Dumfries report five of their chickens drowned in the floods - 2 feet of water ran through their hen house Poor little mites.

I must admit that I've been thinking about the animal casualties and I'm sure there must have been many considering the speed the rivers rose and burst their banks.

I was also wandering what would happen, a local farmer has been fined/jailed because he let his sheep drown, not too sure about the story, just spotted it on the front of the paper.

The farmer in Hopwas who was jailed was a different story - he repeatedly grazed his sheep on an area that floods annually (not just with exceptional rainfall) at a time of year when floods are usual. There are several areas like this near Tamworth that flood every year. He was warned repeatedly not to put his animals at risk but ignored the warning, and I believe this was not the first incident where his animals had drowned or had to be rescued.

I can't imagine what it must be like for all those poor people, and all the poor animals that have drowned, it is just so sad
