Cinnamon
Has anyone seen it yet? The trailers look good,& I love Robert Downey jr,but am not generally a Guy Richie fan. We might go & see it this afternoon,if the rain persists
The Dogmother
We're planning to see it before the week is out Sarah. Phil isn't due to pitch up here until later today or tomorrw though, so not sure whenwe'll fit it in. I'm looking forward to it too.
chickric
Like the look of the trailers, although I am a bit sceptical (sp?), it's not the Sherlock Holmes I know from the books
Cinnamon
Just back, & I am happy to report that it was really great. RD jr was amazing,& looked great with his shirt off. Even Jude Law,who I generally dislike (apart from The Holiday), was very good. Lots of great rapport between them & several laugh out loud moments. The set pieces were spectacular & old London looked really good - several in jokes like 'The Punchbowl' pub Recommended to all
Valkyrie
Number one son saw this yesterday - verdict: Very good - and he's very picky about the films he sees. Robert Downey Jr was an especially good character, he thought.
quickcluck
We saw it on Boxing day Thought it was Fab RDJ is just to die for his English accent is very good. Jude was Ok, but rather weak.... Definately worth going to see tho!

Guest
I ducked out of going but the family reviews of teenager and one OH were very good and apparently I missed a really great film and Robert D J was excellent..oh well will wait for sky premiere.. Seems all the reviews so far are good on here Happy new year for 2010 indie
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I normally hate Guy Ritchie's very Guy Ritchieness, but he's pulled a blinder here. It's a gorgeous, gorgeous film. The sets, the details, the palette, the lighting - sumptuous! I hate Jude Law too, but he's the perfect foil to Robert Downey Jr who is superlatively good. The female leads aren't just pretty pairs of bosoms either. It's fabulously cast, fabulously scripted, and just so darn exciting. A brilliantly well told romp. And the score! It's all gypsytastic orchestral violins and dulcimer/cimbaloms. So atmospheric. Oh it's good. It's all good!!! Go see! And hope for sequels! Couldn't have put it better myself Did you know that the gorgeous dark haired female lead is the same girl who played Regina George, the meanest of the 'Mean Girls' I love the way they have left it open to a sequel too. RD jr is just fantastic, isn't he? The English accnt is so good, & he has that wonderful wryness about him....

The Dogmother
Just seen it and can only echo the comments above, we all loved it (including Rosie who is 11). I'm not JL fan either, but he acts this one perfectly. Wonderfully atmospheric and soem lovely humorous points. I see the sequel to Iron Man is coming up too. Cinnamon
I read a RD jr interview earlier today, where he says that if he can play Tony Stark & Sherlock Holmes continuously until he is forcibly retired,he will be a happy man He is perfect in both roles & I cannot imagine another actor playing either of them now

Lewis
We went last night and all loved it ... even Mother who normally falls asleep Can't say more than chickENN really! Didn't really have anything to complain about and was cleverly left open ... might be one to get on DVD
The Dogmother
We went last night and all loved it ... even Mother who normally falls asleep Just like me then.. it's our age Much to Phil's dismay, if I don't like a film, I will just leave and go home. Can't be wasting time watching total bilge
Lewis
When she heard how long Lord of the rings was she took a picnic! Sandwiches, pringles and all! We were all ing at her ... but still ate it
The Dogmother
Me too Lewis, I resent paying the premiums for the trash they serve in cinemas, so always take at least a bottle of water, usually a snack too.
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
£6.50 for a hot dog and a coke. I HATE modern cinemas. I want usherettes and sensible prices and healthier options and no talking or mobiles during the main feature and no drunk teenagers or rude people crushing popcorn into the carpet and rustling plastic in my ear. Is that asking too much for my tenner, or am I just being fusty and old?!
Hen Watch
Need to check this out regards rating and scaryness as oh wants to go but dont have anyone to leave 12 year old daughter with so we would all have to go. It's a 12A so under 12s can go with an adult. I went with my 3 children they are 13, 11 and 9. All absolutely loved it. It's sort of Sherlock Holmes, meets Die Hard, meets James Bond with a bit of karate thrown in. My kids were ok with it. Only my 13 year old had to look away in one scene with some suspense and a saw (think back to a James Bond film many moons ago with a laser that stops just in time....). My kids love action films and I guess if your daughter liked the last James Bond then she might like this. Hope that's not a general sweeping statement I've just made but best way I can think of describing it. My 9 year old son was glued to it. And wanted to go once he'd seen the trailer online. IMO.... one of the best films I've seen in a while (even better that New Moon which I thought was great ....... oh.... now I've gone and done it...... )
