Right....that's it!

Recommended Posts

My chickens have taken one look at the snow this morning, eaten their mash, had a drink and gone back into the cube. I thought they'd just gone to lay their eggs but they've been in there for ages. Blodwyn came out once and went straight back in the nest box again. Megan came out and stood looking a bit forlorn in the run for a while, but has now gone back up the steps too. Gwennie hasn't come out at all, and she normally lays her eggs in about 5 minutes and shoots back out to see what is going on.

The snow has drifted into one small corner of their run but the rest of it is dry. Obviously they don't like the fact that it is still snowing, and have gone on strike!

Anyone else's chickens gone on strike?

My large cockeral will only come out if a)there's no snow in his way b)its not snowing c)its not too cold. Cue ad-lib pellets in the run for the ladies. Followed by 2 hot meals in the run for the ladies. And a pre-bedtime snackeral of mixed corn for the ladies. And each time there is a separate bowl for Harold, held up by me to his beak as he stands in the house until he finishes it. If I put it on the floor he doesn't eat it..... I also bring him the water drinker each time - what am I doing  During this time the bantams are out every day squawking about and laying eggs!

7 live in the garage so in this photo I just took there should be 28 chickens:

The Modern Games have gone back in their coop, I did spot Steve the Speckled Sussex ducking under a bush on the left, everyone else is either in their coop or seeking shelter in the garage

Mine bwaarked a lot when I went out to collect the eggs and clean out the poo. I opened the run door and they burst out. It was snowing quite heavily at the time. Two snowflakes landed on them and they rushed back in and sat bokking at me as much as to say "What do you call this?!".

They made a dash for the bushes about 2 feet from the door, and then sprinted to the shed with me, and sat in there while I cleaned them out. I gave them a handful of wild bird seed, which they seem to like, then they went back into without a sound and then back and forth in and out of the cube, only leaving for mealworms or raisins.

At least they are still laying eggs, but they are being spoilt rotten with treats!
