chick wiggle
After a few well aimed pecks from the big girls to a couple of my bantams, i decided to give them some extra protection with anti-peck spray. I had read all about the awful smell and was prepared for that. (and yes it IS really bad ) But why had I not read anywhere that it is BROWN! I sprayed Noodle and Baby who are brown anyway and so never noticed, then I got Sweetpea who WAS a beautiful pure white. Now look at her I am devastated, bless her, Im hoping you are going to tell me it fades away completely soon???
Redwing
ummmmmm well I could tell you that it fades quickly...

coco
I purple sprayed Lily on Tuesday but got a bit carried away. I now have a brown and purple chicken and a white house with purple spots. At least it will fade eventually.
chick wiggle
Oh no coco, well fingers crossed for both of us that it fades
coco
I also purple sprayed the palms and fingers of both hands. I was sitting with my hands in a bowl of Vodka that night but at least it got the purple off. Waste of vodka though.
chick wiggle
Vodka? Do ya think it would work on Ukadex? I could dunk Sweetpea and Angel in it I've never seen a drunk chook
Egluntyne
It will fade. Eventually. It doesn't wash out of brand new , first time on, snow white Per Una blouses.
chick wiggle
Oh no Egluntyne, you didnt? I put on my yukkiest clobber, did the deed, then stripped off in the kitchen and threw the lot in the washer then showered and washed hair, brushed teeth etc etc and I can STILL smell it. My neighbour and family assure me I dont smell though
Chook n Boo Mum
It doesn't wash out of brand new , first time on, snow white Per Una blouses. Oooops, do I detect a hint of "been there, done that" E You'll smell and taste that evil stuff for a few days too Sandie .......I put it on with a paintbrush having sprayed some into a jar.......from as far a distance as my arm will manage, standing upwind and wearing a disposable "babygro" & gloves to protect my clothes. Chook cuddles will be severely rationed for the next day or so Sha x

HRC99
Sorry, Sandie. My fault, I'd forgotten about the brown bit. As others have said, it does fade. It faded quite quickly on Gladys when she had a dustbath. Is it working though?
Chook n Boo Mum
Chook cuddles will be severely rationed for the next day or so Sha x Oh no...... cuddle rationing You could always wear a mask/peg ......or dot some essential oil onto a scarf & wrap it round your neck so the warmth gives you a waft of that rather than old ashtrays Sha x
beulah59
Vodka? Do ya think it would work on Ukadex? debbier
I have some rather attractive spotty purple jeans now, after a gentian violet episode. My chickens looked like punky teenagers with purple feathers for a while.
Space Chick
Rose - my white star - cut her back just before Christmas and I had to spray her with purple spray, she is now a Purple and White girl and I think she looks rather fetching Never mind CW, I'm sure she'll be white again soon
Chook n Boo Mum
Guess who went & did the school run with purple freckles following a dousing of Snowdrop in purple spray and a rather violent headshake on her part Sha x
Valkyrie
Love your new buff silkie, Chickle. The only ones it doesn't show up on are the black girls. And yes I could smell it even though the clothes were bunged in the wash and I'd bathed. It seems to get stuck up your nose somewhat! After all that they still peck, but not harshly anymore - thank goodness. I need to clean the cube because it pongs of anti peck - not poo. But waiting for some sunshine first. chick wiggle
Thanks for cheering me up everyone, some quite funny stories there. I must admit they do still look quite cute but still smelly too HRC99 its not your fault i should have known Im very grateful to you for lending it to me. it does seem to have worked I think, by the little amont of time Ive spent with them so far anyway. Its difficult to tell as I couldnt bear to stay in the run too long because of the smell and I have been at work all day today so havent seen them. Will pm you regarding retuning it Koojie Im too wating for a bit of sun, even a dry day will do as I really need to do a 'deep' clean of the coops. I feel I have got away long enough with just the bare minimum! Will update 'fading' pictures, I hope, on 'the babies' thread
craftyhunnypie
What does it smell of / like? Emma.x
chick wiggle
Oh Emma, it truly is disgusting. I think someone on here said it smelt of something (Icant remember exactly what but something horrible) and a thousand stale full ashtrays. and it does!!! Thats quite a good discription, its vile. I dont think i will be using it again. If it doesnt work this time, although I must say the pecking wasnt too bad, i think i was maybe been overprotective of the bantams, I would go down the bumper bit route. Lewis
I have some red, green and blue jeans At Easter my hands are always stained stupid colours because of lambing and having to spray the sheep ... me + a friend accidently sprayed a lamb pink once We did try and get it off but it just ended up spreading all over its side to the other side! ... I think we said the ewe splashed it with the water bucket or something stupid like that At least we knew who he was for a few months Oh, and it doesn't come out of Chemistry text books if you revise at the farm either ... they let me off, because at least they knew I was revising I don't think I'll trust myself with any ... haven't had a reason to get any yet so will avoid it from all these stories
chick wiggle
Definately one to be avoided if you can Lewis. I really thought people might be exagerating a tad about the smell. THEY'RE NOT!
Valkyrie
What does it smell of / like? Emma.x I can only think of charred remains of something on the barbeque mixed with some Friars Balsam. Or a huge bonfire mixed with Friars Balsam - which is an equally vile smelling thing.
