Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

..my quilt/throw. In the end I decided to go for a cheap bundle of remenant material rather than the delicious sounding layer cakes and jelli rolls. Too expensive if I get it all wrong.

 

The fabric arrived this morning, whilst I was at the hospital, and I've spent a while cutting it into working strips. Desperately want to get on with it, but, am extremely fatigued at the moment and struggling to focus my eyes.

 

Will do some more tomorrow.

 

Wish me luck with my first quilt. eeek.

I am hoping my shoulder will all be better WAY before next winter which is the most likely completion date for the quilt. Oh, hang on, being serious for a mo, make that the winter after

 

Thank Plum. They are all neutral-ish colours so nothing to 'whooo' over but, it will be good practice and hopefully, what it lacks in finesse it will make up for with pride that 'I made that'

Good luck - and it is allowed to be cast to one side until you are in the mood to do it again. They are called either UFO's (unfinished objects) or WIP's (works in process) - apparently even the experts get bored with one and hop back and forth.

I think it will be lovely, and this time of year quilting is a very good idea (warms the knees whether you do it by hand or machine).

Today I started sewing the strips together. Its so exciting. I am not following a pattern, but am just trying to practise the techniques really, the rotary cutting, the sewing in a straight line, lol.

It's liberating sewing like that.

 

My group made some random log cabin quilts for the local hospital. Just cut strips and sorted them into light and dark. We couldn't look just took first one out of the bag. The quilts were fabulous and the patients loved them. I used to see someone stroking the fabric on one and I knew how she felt. Didn't see anyone sniffing them though which is what I do with fabric

Would you like to see it as it is so far? There is plenty that is technically incorrect but, I've learnt lots along the way and am looking forward to the next stage; Just got to save up for the batting and backing fabric.

That quilt is lovely Ygerna the blues really lift the creams and browns

 

Why not have a look in charity shops for garments, sheets or something you can use to piece the back. I never buy fabric for it I always use s"Ooops, word censored!"s or left overs from the front. Batting can be inexpensive if you use polyester. It quilts well, doesn't need prewashing to shrink it and the quilt dries quickly when washed. Just a bit more loft than cotton or cotton mix.
