ubereglu
My Dad is finally coming home tomorrow! This is after having fractured his pelvis and chipping the ball joint of his hip. Then having to be in hospital in bed for 2 and a half weeks. Before he eventually had a young persons' hip replacement done in Bristol. So, today he'd organised to have his friends round to raise the double bed upstairs, so then it's a better height for when he eventually cope with stairs properly. They also moved Sarah's bed downstairs for us so he can sleep in the living room and helped out with moving the other furniture into the garage to make suitable space. Plus helping us with all the other things Occupational Health had delivered to us... On top of this they made him a gadget to switch the gas fire on with! I don't know whether to laugh or cry, it's been getting more and more like 'Last of the Summer Wine' with him recently. He phoned us about 6 times yesterday from Frenchay, generally asking about heights of furniture! So, tomorrow he's finally escaping and coming back home...Sounds a bit like an end to the problems doesn't it...Oh no, he gets to wander around with a zimmerframe, crutches and a pick up stick thing! Just another 5 weeks and then he can put weight back onto his left leg! Then the full recovery will take longer... Wish us luck!

The Dogmother
Good news Liz! A friend in his early 50s had a hip replacement done a couple of years back - tell your dad that he's back to doing long distance runs and bike rides..... so the outlook is positive. ubereglu
Thanks for that Claret. Most of the info we could find about recovery times was for older people or people who weren't very fit to start with. He should be here within the next hour! His sister suggested he should give up cycling after this, and our opinion was 'WHAT???', it's actually the first bone breakage he's ever had and the first time he's seriously fallen off his bike! At least he did it at this time of his life as had he done it 20 years ago the prospects wouldn't be so good.
ubereglu
Well, he's been back since Friday afternoon and he's making really good progress! He's getting a lot faster on his crutches/zimmerframe and has now made hazard lights for the zimmer!

ubereglu
That's good news Liz, he must be so frustrated at being confined He is a little bit, but he's getting on ok. Physio are coming round tomorrow to help him with the recovery process and to try and see if they can get him to manage stairs. His friend came around today to keep him amused too. The most annoying things at the minute are that when he's on his own he can't get to the phone quick enough. Plus he'd ordered a new mattress and they tried to deliver it when him and Mum had gone up to the Doctor's surgery yesterday...so Mum will have to collect it tomorrow!
