Cinnamon
Just looked in on Metcheck to see that they are forecasting sleet & daytime temps of -3 for me on monday
The Dogmother
thought the warmth was too good to last! We'll probably get the same then. Just checked and mine says that it will be warm again tomorrow, with temps going down after that to 7deg, but no sleet for Monday.

Dizzy-Deb
I know what you mean. When I went out to the chickens I had two fleeces on, hat, rain jacket and gloves. Poor girls didnt recognise me. I so hate the cold. xx
Charlottechicken
Just thought I would bump this thread up for anyone who can't find it I think that today winter arrived It's gone really cold and fresh, zero degrees at 7am. This morning the sky was all pastelly winter colours as the sun was rising, and my chickens were really reluctant to come out of their covered run! The Dogmother
Much, much colder here today too, I was up a bit later than usual, but it was very chilly without being frozen. The leaves were falling off the trees in the park like confetti. We drove west today towards Cirencester, with the intention of going to Westonbirt Arboretum to see the leaf colours, it clouded over as we got there, there were hoards of people and the entry price had gone up from the 'couple of quid' that we remembered to £9!!!!! we drove off and walked through equally beautiful (and free) woods nearby! Much colder now; currently just 2deg. The woodburner is going full pelt, so we're lovely and warm indoors All that free wood *rubs hands with glee*
Cinnamon
Good grief - it is vile out there today. Torrential rain, coming down sideways & really blowy too. It looks cold, but I have not been brave enough to open the back door yet. The cat is most unhappy,& has set up camp on my new duvet
Egluntyne
Similar here. Absolutely vile, after such a gorgeous day yesterday. So glad I fettled the hens whilst the sun was shining.
The Dogmother
It's like a washing machine out there today - a freezing one! It's just made it up to 4deg, thrashing and raining like mad. I drove Rosie to school today, which I almost never need to do.
Omletina Kyckling
It's hideous up on top of t'hill here! Blowing a gale, horizontal rain and I really need to clean my girlies out!! Grrr
helen1962
Hi All Just seen weather forcast it seems strong gales are expected. Well it will put our WIR to the test. It is home made with a part covered by a perspex roof and this is the bit I am worried about! Does anyone else on the forum live in Blackpool? abwsco
I'm down the road in St Annes and the weather is odd to say the least. Brilliant sunshine, black clouds, downpours and lots of wind Touch wood everything is still standing.
beach chick
today in Kent is hideous again... I think we will lose some trees quite soon, just hope they land in the field and not on the neighbours, dont need the hassle!!
abwsco
It's been bin day today and I'm going to have to put our empty wheelie bin in the garage as it keeps blowing down the drive - I haven't taken it round back yet incase it goes off down the garden and scares or injures the chooks. I'm just glad it wasn't our paper and cardboard day as we now have to use lightweight sacks for cardboard instead of another wheelie bin. Ridiculous when we live somewhere that can get very windy
beach chick
I'm just glad it wasn't our paper and cardboard day as we now have to use lightweight sacks for cardboard instead of another wheelie bin. Ridiculous when we live somewhere that can get very windy same here - I got a filthy look from the dustbin men on tues am when I took the kids to school, because about 3 items had blown out of the plastic box (bottles, tins etc) and blue bag (paper and card). what on earth are we supposed to do with it? sit out all night?! and there's no way I'm putting it out in the morning, they come at 7.30 at which point I am trying to get kids up, dog in garden, etc etc etc. I'm all for recycling, but I'm sure it would work much better if they made it easy!! Egluntyne
Blowing a gale here already. Have rescued my greenhouse door from the middle of the lawn for the 2nd time this week. I've got a ton of boulders holding it in place now. My green garden waste sacks which we put out for collection monthly have blown up and down the main road outside, along with everyone else's. Oh dear.
The Dogmother
We've had it all here today, the only thing that has been consistent is the wind, or gales! We've had warm sun, gale force winds, stair-rod rain....
beach chick
I would call today a 'better' day here. windy, cloudy, but not actually raining. managed to walk the dog for an hour without getting blown over, and the girls have had a good morning outside - tho I notice they've all now retreated to the WIR, either for an afternoon nap or they know what's coming next?! The Dogmother
The gales last night were so bad that I could hear wheelie bins being blown down the road, even after I reluctantly shut the window, everything was banging away so I popped my earplugs in Beautiful sunny morning, but rain and more wind this afternoon. Still quite warm though.
