jellykelly
I'm bidding on a coop and small run on Ebay at the moment. I thought it would be handy to have one as a spare. Then I thought that a coop would look silly standing empty - just waiting!! Anyway, I have 8 chickens in a big WiR already and thought that I could use the small coop and run for a couple of bantams - but which breed?? Which is best/prettiest/nicest and why?? Thanks
Redwing
Wyandottes, pretty farmhouse shaped bantams that come in lots of colours, no feathery legs to deal with and they are hardy and friendly
tom123
Wyandottes! As Tasha said, no feathery legs or topknots just pretty, hardy, 'curvy' bantams who can become extremely tame
Space Chick
Rhode Island Red Bantams lay really well, but I am a Silkie fan, go broody at the drop of the hat but are so cute and cuddly
jellykelly
Silkies are very cute. I like them!! Keep your opinions coming. I think I'm going to have to win the coop - I've gone all broody!!
Falkor
Wyandottes, pretty farmhouse shaped bantams that come in lots of colours, no feathery legs to deal with and they are hardy and friendly Not that she is biased! But I agree. My little Wyandotte cross is great!
Redwing
Hey! I got in to them BECAUSE they are so great
Griffin
You need a bantam Faverolle There's been a few threads on them recently here. Very quiet, gentle little birds that love cuddles.
Lewis
What about a mix of a couple of breeds? Wyandotte's are good, I'd say get a pekin (biggest personalities) and maybe a frizzle poland (look ) too
madchickenlady
I'm a massive pekin fan. Such lovely, feisty little characters My silkies are also lovely, although less blessed in the brains department
sparkysmum
Hey jellykelly great thread. I had intended posting exactly this in the spring as I have a piece of garden which really needs some bantams . I am thinking wyandottes or Pekins. Which are the best layers, anyone Please excuse me for butting in on your thread, jelly. Axx
Egluntyne
I love my little Pekin Bantams. Real characters......and the feathery feet aren't a problem.
jellykelly
Arrrggghhhhhhh - I'm even more confused. I can see that I'll end up with one or two of each!
quickcluck
I am looking for some too! I need feisty ones! I think pekins fit this bill..... Would like a SLW but are they too docile???
Redwing
no not too docile but more so than Pekins
Cinnamon
I have a mixture & they are all cute. My Pekin is a fiesty little thing. My Poland is as mad as a sack of snakes & the 2 dutch mini things are adorable.....go for a mixture!
jellykelly
What do you think of Auracana's?? I quite fancy blue eggs.
The Dogmother
I've had 3 araucana minis, teo left now. Good hardy birds who lay well. However, they are a mad as a bag of frogs and don't make the traditional soft clucking noise - more of a rusty gate hinge effect - it grows on you! jellykelly
I can see that I may have o bid on a bigger coop and run and get a few of each. The kids don't need outdoor space anyway
ubereglu
I love pekins and sebrights, very sweet and quite friendly I believe!
craftyhunnypie
Pekins are fab! Lovely balls of feathers - very funny to see running up the path. I also have frizzle pekin bantams. They are all very friendly, very hardy & can hold their own. They can be stroppy madams, but in a sweet way. I love them to bits. I also have silkies which are on the small side - very very friendly & love cuddles. Emma.x
shelley8179
I have 2 pekins and a D'uccle all very cute and lots of fun. My D'uccle got attacked by a cat and has been living indoors after losing one of her eyes, now she is better, after a week of tlc she is so funny and such a great character. JB09
My pekin if full of character for such a small birdy. She is also very loving and will often sit on my shoulder. I don't find the feathered feet a problem, if they get really mucky I just dip them in soapy water and dry them off and they go all fluffy again. sparkysmum
Well jelly, have you made your mind up I think we're up for pekins Going to Peebles Poultry Show later this month for a nosey Don't know what we'll come back with
jellykelly
I'm still undecided. There is a place near here that sells bantams - so I think I'll go along and see which ones take my fancy. I've also still yet to win the coop and run on Ebay.
