Ginfiend
Took the plunge and just fetched 2 more chickens! After the traumas losing Delilah, a bit apprehensive, but hoping this time things will go more smoothly. Doris is 'giving the eye' to the new girls through the temporary divider in the run - hoping they won't fight. Doodle has retreated to the nest box already - hope she's alright. Plum
Good news. She'll come round, tell her it's for her good in the long run. What did you get?
Chicken Shirl
Good for you. In a few days they will have started to get used to the idea. Good luck with them.

Ginfiend
I got 2 Black Rhodes in the end - they are supposed to be good for beginners, so I thought they'd be a good bet. And as for Doodle hiding in the nestbox - she was laying! Within an hour of arrival! Panic over...

Ginfiend
Dodo broke through the bamboo canes we put across the run in eagerness to meet Doris...was expecting flying feathers and claws, but luckily no s"Ooops, word censored!"ping! So all 3 were bundling about together for about an hour before bed - a few pecks from Doris, but nothing major, she seemed happy to have company again more than anything. PHEW! A bit of a scrabble getting them into the eglu (me on hands and knees in the run...again), but fingers crossed they seem to get on together. chookydoos
Hi, How long was Doris alone for? I lost my last week and I feel sorry for the remaining Miss . Most of the posts about introducing new birds seems to advise giving it a few weeks before putting them together, how long did it take for the birds to get on? Lisa. Ginfiend
Sorry to hear about your . Doris was on her own for nearly 4 weeks - just couldn't sort it any earlier. But when we got Dodo and Doodle on Saturday, we split the run into 2 with a load of bamboo canes, thinking we'd need to keep them separate for a few days. Within 2 hours, Dodo had broken through the canes and was happily bundling around with Doris! So we took all the canes up and the 3 just got on straight away. Doris gave a couple of little pecks initially, but that was it. They know she's boss chicken and seem ok with that. They're now rootling around together happy as larry. I don't know if being on her own for so long helped - but she does seem happier to have company. Or maybe we were just lucky this time! Good luck with yours - it turned out to be a lot easier than I was expecting.
