batcatz
always the boss? Is yours the top hen?
Griffin
No, Mrs Pants gets along with everyone. You wouldn't want to mess with her, she's a lady who commands respect, but she's generally a nice person.
Tutti Frutti
Griffin, is she large? And are her eggs dark brown (I know they're generally speckled! ) TIA
Snowy
I have two speckledies and they are so different! Sage looks a bit like a pied suffolk - dark grey with more white round her neck, she is very friendly and chatty. Whereas Poppy looks like a pure bred cuckoo maran - lovely barred feathers and hugely feathered feet. She is also a lot more wary than Sage. They both lay nice, dark chestnut eggs, Poppy's being slightly darker.

Space Chick
My Speckledy Sarah-Jane is the boss Although, I agree with Griffins comments that she is a nice person who commands respect. Any nonsense and she gives the nod to her second in command Rose the White Star who wades in and sorts any agro
Florence
Our speckledy is number 2 ,the bluebell is top hen but when we first had the girls my other speckledy ,who we sadly lost last month, was top hen and the bluebell bottom so Clover has stayed the same I love my speckledy even though she is a little madam at the moment because she keeps disappearing into next doors garden and the churchyard,I think we are going to have to clip her wings ,which I don't really want to but my neighbour is worried about her veg and also I think she is laying elswhere :anxious:Silly girl! ..lay a little egg for me
Our speckledy is top chook. Can't remember what her eggs are like as she hasn't laid in so long , but I do remember being disappointed they weren't speckled. I seem to remember they were darker than the others' eggs and more shiny.

Griffin
Griffin, is she large? And are her eggs dark brown (I know they're generally speckled! ) TIA I think buxom is the best way to describe her. Her eggs are dark and speckled but not that dark. I have a hen who I think is a Wheaten Marans cross and her eggs are much much darker. Woodcat
hey I think i have a speckledy who is determined to be different. She is simply stupid she always gets left behind and nearly everyone beats her up. She gets confused when she runs for a treat and the pekins run under her between her legs to grab it and spends ages looking for it and looking between her legs because she can't work out what happened. You look at her and can see the goldfish swiming across her eyes but she is utterly hysterical. If you get her cross she fluffs up and walks without bending her legs while very loudly whining and shouting about the whole thing. All of her bokking isn't like the others it comes out as though she's whining about something and she does that pretty much continuously. She's just a big baby who comes running to mummy as soon as anyone does anything she doesn't like

Stevie
Nope.My Speckledy is on par with the Bluebelle-at the bottom of pecking order! Nervous Nerys the White Leghorn is the boss of my troupe despite being much smaller than rest and more nervy-hence the name!
cooker
our speckly hen is not neccsarily top hen, but she is defintaley the cleverest hen! tonight she worked out that if she stands on the hero's tin she can get into the bag of grain and gorge herself on grain galore! none of the otehrs would come close to working that out! Minnie&Moose
Mabel, our speckledy, is ranked 4 of 5 hens, is the smallest of all of them (think we've got a bit of a runt) but lays beautiful small dark brown shiny eggs - and lays just about every day. batcatz
Interesting as I thought speckledy hens were always the boss from various things I'd read. Mine is the boss. She is also very greedy and thinks all the treats should be hers. She never pecks her silkie friend, but she pecks the other two hens out of the way of her food. Not sure if she commands respect, but she commands all the food. haha

chickyhazel
We don't have a speckledy but our massive bluebelle is boss and she is huge compared to them. I thought it could be size but am clearly wrong...
