CrazyDaizy
Cilla and Daisy are our two chooks, we've had them since october-ish, but recentely they seem to be making more and more noise, Cilla the most. She just seems to like the sound of her own voice, in the morning, when they are still in the run is when they make the most noise, but then when they are roaming the cluck loudly and squar at nothing???Very puzzling?? We are pretty sure that there arn'tcats/foxes in the garden and they arn't scared of the bunny, what has happened to our quiet chooks?? We are scared that if they don't start being quiet we may have to sell them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Looney
My two make a racket if they are inside the eglu and it is getting light outside. As the mornings are getting lighter earlier, and the weather is warmer I am tending to leave the eglu door open (especially at the weekend) so they can get out into the run whenever they want. This seems to stop the noise. If Cilla and Daisy are used to being let out of the run first thing in the morning perhaps they are squawking to be let out to free-range? You might need to try and break the habit (vary the time they are allowed out?).......

CrazyDaizy
Try a water squirter - works a treat That'd be great, but we arent always here. I suppose we could suggest to the neighbours to do that for us??? We have houses ALL around ours. We do not want to cause a problem with the neighbours AT ALL!!!! Hubby's already fretting that they are making a mess of the garden, now the noise..... HE wanted the hens as much as we all did, yet it seems he's rapidly going off the idea! The Dogmother
It's all down to cause and effect - just like children and dogs. They squawk, so you go out to shut them up and they get attention.... If they get a face full of water whenever they do it, they'll soon stop.

The Dogmother
That little monster used to delight in chucking her food on the floor from her highchair so that i would pick it up. I stopped, and so did she. Nearly got a face full of water though
chelsea
Noisy chooks here too. I cringe sometimes for my neighbours sake , but no complaints yet - but thats why I want to move. Ours squark for no particular reason, mostly to let one chicken know their whereabouts to the other - so they communicate across the garden very loudly. feemcg
One or two of mine make a racket after they lay and occasionally if they want out the run, but generally not too bad.
chocchick
I have one antisocial chicken (Abbie). The volume is astounding a deep WAAAARKKK WAAAARRK WAAAARK whenever I go out or someone appears near the back garden If you pick her up at night she does it too and her body vibrates with the sound Maybe will try squirting her whenever I go out. Trinny used to peck her at night if she did it. We talked to a neighbour and luckily she doesn't mind and thinks she is like a good guard "dog" and she knows when someone is near the back of her house. The Dogmother
Great to have a guard chicken Choccy. Mine don't make a lot of noise -mainly just when they're laying. Dolly, the Araucana cross has a horrid noise - not at all like a normal chook call; more like a loud rusty gate screeching - very primeval
SillyClucker
emmmm not every morning but we are woken up (and i'm sure the neighbours are as well ) ) by plod clucking at the top of her voice. its not a squawk but a "puk puk puk puk puk puk puk puk puk puk puk puuuuuuuuuuk puk puk" Now its either to do with food - no they have plenty of food. it could be to do with laying but they don't do this all the time. But it could be that she wants a man well a cock anyway - I'll get me coat
Egluntyne
She could be warning everyone about a fox or rat or other pest! one of mine BOC BOC BOCS at the top of her voice if there is anything in the vicinity. Better than a rottweiller.
chocchick
I think some chickens are just antisocial. The loud noises and feather pulling [Abbie] have not neccessarily gone down well with the other chickens either.
Christian
Laverne always screams a loud 'alarm' every time she or the others lay an egg!
Jane and Martin
Gracie our Miss Pepperpot is the most vocal making very loud BOB BOC BOC noises always after she has laid, and also if there has been an unusual noise; helicopter flying over for example. I was worried re it disturbing the neighbours but having spoken to them noone is bothered, in fact one neighbour always pops round to check the chooks are OK if they hear her and we are not in. Bribery with fantastic eggs also helps.

Snowy
hubby recorded our Ella on his phone today (she is so loud) he is using her as his ringtone !! I like that idea! Bella was up to it again today. She wanted to lay, but there was a queue for the nest box. She stomped up and down the garden having a right hissy fit at anyone/anything that would listen! fluffygrue
Our little troublesome Ohno made the loudest sound I've ever heard a chicken make last night.. around 4:30am - sort of a cross between a cockerel/peacock/house alarm/hysterical female. She sounded more upset than demanding attention - do you think that might have been a fox nearby? I'd hate to think it was a habit she was developing to get attention, as it really was loud. Presumably shutting the house door at night might stop it? If not, it's water bottle time..
