patsylabrador
For me - yes, yes and again yes. I worried so much at first but you soon fall into routines, get to know your chickens and what is important and what isn't. I even regretted getting them at first, now I'm so happy with them and get enormous amounts of pleasure. Enjoy, accept the worrying - it will pass! Roobaloo
As everyone else has said...relax and enjoy!! When I first got my girls, I panicked everytime I heard the neighbours in their gardens in case they were "assessing" the noise or smell of my girls...I gave myself sleepless nights because I saw a guy from 4 doors down knocking on my neighbours door and after getting no answer, he stood in front of our house and shook his head!! I was expecting letters from the council and mobs with pitchforks and torches!! I've now got into a routine with the girls, I'm much more relaxed...some days they're shouty, most days they're quiet and some days are smellier than others so I make sure to do extra poo picking if they start to pong!! Egluntyne
A bit of garden lime sprinkled about will kill any smells. Relax and enjoy them. They will bring your garden to life.
westie mum
I know how you feel! I too thought I had made a mistake when I had my chooks but 3 weeks down the line I love them to bits. Like Eglutyne says they will bring your garden to life. I love sitting out with my girls especially early morning when I have my 1st cup of coffee! Once you get into a routine you will wonder what you were worrying about Relax and enjoy your chooks

marmite+toast
I know exactly how you feel, the day my girls arrived I kept standing by the back door and sniffing, convinced that my garden smelt like a chicken farm, I practically followed the girls round picking up poo before it hit the floor If they are a bit smelly its probaly just cos they're a bit stressed & it will soon settle down. Six weeks in I honestly can't smell a thing. Relax & enjoy. xxx
lheurebleue
I was worried from the start but none of it has come to fruition *touch wood*. I thought they be smelly (they're not), make too much noise (they don't) and all Hell would break loose when I put them together for the first time (they get on like a house on fire). Once you've have them for a while and get to know each of their personalities and peccadilloes you'll wonder what all the fuss and anxiety was about. Florence
I know what you mean but you soon relax,re the smell,I have found that some types of pellets make more smell than others and also that the more they free range the less smelly the poo is .I spoil mine and use the organic food company pellets but they definately produce less smelly poo than on some other brands, also a bit of bokashi in the food helps with smell
