Question for campers (Photos - page 3)

Recommended Posts

I am going to try my hand at camping :anxious:

Basically reading the collective views of my lovely chicken friends has made me think, why not!!

I have bought a modest tent, sleeping bag, blow up mattress etc etc. I have now started looking at toilet tents, as would like to also have my own loo facilities. The thing is, that I have a tiny smart car to carry all my stuff in, so I do not have room for a luggable loo, I need something folding, so have thought of adaptations I could make to a folding chair to turn it into a commode

My question is (if you are still with me), any ideas on what bags I could use to collect the wee? I would hope not to do a number 2 :shh:

Mods - I think this is a suitable family forum question, feel free to delete it if not

I have seen the shewee and the whizz freedom, but a girl likes to sit in comfort whilst she relieves herself

You might be better staying at a camp site that has it's own toilet facilities for your first time camping

You are right... although my first time camping will be in docsquids woods in the Omlet meet, so no facilities to speak of. A lovely friend is loaning me a toilet tent for this occasion.

:lol: @ you fitting everything in your Smart car. Sorry I know that isn't very constructive

:shameonu: You'd be amazed what I have fitted in, in the past. My tent is a folding pop up one, so thats tiny

What about Lesley's Sheewee? I'd just use the undergrowth, but then I don't enjoy camping these days.

I knew the sheewee would rear its ugly head in this thread. We've had some very illuminating posts on these in the past.:lol:

Can't quite expunge the mental image of Space Chick 'tethering the horse' from my mind.

don't know anything about portable loos but all the sites we've stayed on have superb facilities. If you haven't been camping before, you'd probably be pleasantly surprised at how good the facilities are.

... but not in Docsquid's woods, lovely though they are!

Must admit I either hang on till morning, get up and use the facilities or in a 'wild' situation, use the undergrowth! I have friends however who just use a good old-fashioned bucket. Personally I think the risk of kicking over said bucket during the night  is greater than the inconvenience of getting up.

Perhaps someone else who is going might let you use their loo! Afraid your description above of the folding chair/commode has made me laugh though ... do let us know what you come up with!

I think you should just dig a hole under your chair then all is sorted for any situation ;)

Careful! DH once sat down on a director's chair, the seat split and he went straight through and ended up sitting on the floor wiggling his feet in the air. I'd hate for him to land in his hole  Actually, no I wouldn't I'd just hate to clear up and do the washing

How about one of these? I hear they're supposed to be good.

Failing that, a bucket lined with a carrier bag with some cat litter in the bottom, and a kiddies toilet training seat on top for comfort? (my preferred option based on cost, instant availability and experience of roughing it/camping over the last 20 years or so!)

 Noooooo! that's like one of those really bad dreams, imagine you're sitting on a loo in full view being towed along by a car .... ok I know it's not meant to be used while the car is moving, but do people honestly use this? in public?

I need a lie down, excuse me.

:lol::lol::lol: Sorry no use at all Debs, just wondering how people find some of these sites

We used to have a kiddies toilet trainer thingy...like a blue bucket with a yellow seat arrangement on the top when we went camping, essentially for the children, but if we were brave and desperate, it sufficed for us parents too....I always used to put a Pampers bedmat or equivalent underneath to catch any spills & splashes :D .........and send DH off on emptying duties in the morning

Now trying to be serious

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: oh no stop it

Ok now trying to be serious if theres no loo and you don't like al fresco, my daughter has a potty thing with bags that fit it. Now you can just buy the bags but in fact a good quality nappy sack with a thick pad such as a maternity pad int he bottom surfices.

I agree with Debs, it's amazing what you can fit in a Smart car....I do miss our little Four Two  ...but love the 500c I have in her place, much more practical when I have to take 3 bods & little else......and the roof goes right back  .......and 4 cars really is a little greedy

Good luck with the loo-hunt Debs
