whoopsie
I've just gone down to let the girls out and some horrible person has come into my garden and let them out in the night. Foxes have got both of them
dixie chick
Oh my goodness how awful for you - I cannot understand the mentality of such people. Sending you heartfelt sympathy
whoopsie
Thank you Dixie. I'm still in shock at the moment. My neighbour's chooks seem to be safe thank goodness.

whoopsie
Just looked up my old posts - I got my girls on 24th July last year. Almost a year ago.
ISCA
What a horrid shock for you. I really, really can not fathom the mentality of some of the low-life we have in society today who do such things. I would report it to the Police- not that they will do anything but at least there will be a record that a crime (trespass and vandalism) has been committed. Being a family forum I can not write my true reaction when I read this!

Mollie333
Im so sorry, and just over a year.. I go to a school where the kids are not all angels, and of course i'm not like that, they knew i lived there and delibertly let my chickens out at night, i have a big fox problem but luckily we'd already had lost one in the day before this event, so the fox didn't come back.. Shame what some people are like, such immature idiots.. Oops Family forum, ill stop..
Plum
So sorry, its very sad.
midori
Oh my goodness, I am so sorry! What on earth is wrong with some people?! Is there any way you can lock your garden or henhouse to try and deter them in future?
whoopsie
I've just had a confession from one of the local kids who was dragged round to mine by the rest of the kids in the street (who are lovely and i've known them since they were babies). Apparently the family that the culprit is from are violent and i've been advised not to go and speak to his parents, so it's all been reported to the Police and i've asked for someone to come round and talk to me about security. We're a neighbourhood watch area as well! If it's happened to my hens they might try my house next so i want to be careful. This used to be such a nice place to live. MummyHen
Oh no - this is just horrid. You must be so shocked - I'm so sorry. My MIL lives in the Village - I was telling her that there was someone on the forum from Charlton who had chickens. You must improve security and don't take any personal risks Big hug Rachel
jimnpaula
Assuming you plan to get more hens, perhaps investing in cage locks might help make things more secure? (I've thought of getting these for the ferret cage at car shows, apparently they're hard to open if you don't know how.) Glad the neighbourhood is helping in this. whoopsie
Well the Police were really nice and have had a good look at the garden. I have bought a heavy duty padlock for the garden gate and a smaller one for the Eglu door. The local kids have told the culprit he's been caught on camera so that should scare him for a bit. The Police have asked everybody to report ANY incident to them - have a feeling something bigger might be going on. One of the kids found Barbara - He and my neighbour have already buried her along with some of Margot's feathers - 'so that they would be together'. How sweet of them. ISCA
Whoopsie, I am glad you have got the Police involved. Far too many crimes go unreported. It sounds like most of your neighbours are being supportive which is good to hear. Take care.
Tiggy
sounds like the local kids are OK, the culprit sounds as if he comes from a very difficult home, not that Im making excuses for this sort of behaviour but maybe peer pressure will be more effective than his parenting
skye
So sorry to hear of your horrible experience. Some people have something missing where their heart and compassion should be. skye x
migsy
I hope Social Services are involved with this family. What chance do the kids have if the parents are so bad? At least the other kids have named and shamed.
whoopsie
I have a feeling that if Social Services aren't involved yet they might be. It sounds like the kid doesn't have much of a role model. Interestingly I had a child protection update today at work. I shall be keeping a discreet eye out. Thank you to everybody here who have been so supportive - and Woodcat, Fur 'n' Feathers and Reikiranf for the consolation on Saturday x
