Decided to buy a classic but can't decide on what colour

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm new :D

After trying to win some second hand classic eglu's that eventually went for silly money once I'd factored in my fuel for collecting it, I've decided I may as well get a new one. Especially after reserving 3 ex-bats today! 8)

Except I can't decide what colour to go for! They all look nice. Any suggestions? Do they fade?

Thanks

Hello!! I'd go for purple too! That said, I did what you have done - try bidding on some from Ebay, which as you say would end up costing more than a new one when you've allowed for collection etc. I got my Eglu from Cotswold Chickens not long ago just before I collected my ex batts and didn't have the chance to be fussy on colour, they had purple or green, so it might boil down to what's available when you order? (Glad I've got purple though, it's very funky!!!) Good luck!!

I wanted yellow or blue....but they don't sell them any more! I then decided the next best colour was purple!!

At the last minute, I bought a red one (I've no idea why!!! ...perhaps it felt more 'chickeny'!!!)

It's a fab colour, very vivid....but my next one will definitely be purple!!!

Thanks for your replies. I wonder if chickens don't like red & orange for a reason - what colour are foxes?!

I think I'll give omlet a ring in the morning and see if they have any reconditioned purple ones. Are they in very good condition does anyone know?

I'm clearing out one of our flower (weed) borders and will be putting down wood chips over a black liner as a base for the eglu. I started digging today and then decided it might be easier to do after the rain tomorrow!

Chickens are attracted to red (hence why a cockerel has such big red wattles and comb!!!):lol: plus, they would see a fox by its shape and movement rather than colour...just as they can see a buzzard silhouetted against a blue sky but would ignore a sparrow.

I've heard that the reconditioned ones are very good, they are either ex-display models or returns that have minor cosmetic marks or just needed a replacement part etc. If they still have the same guarantee when sold by Omlet then it'd definitely be worth it!!

I tried to get a reconditioned one, but without success. If you go into the shop website, and click on the more info button beside each colour eglu, it comes up with "Marketplace" at the bottom of the page, which tells you if they've got any used/reconditioned eglus for sale.

Recons are still in great condition- infact my lue came probably boxed up, and I had a peek on the omlet van at the same time and there was a NEW purple one just shoved on.
