How many TV's...

Recommended Posts

we have 1 in the living room one in the dining room for games consoles and one old one that is waiting to go up to the summer house once i've cleaned it out between three of us one of whom is obsessed with the house of tiny tearaways and supernanny and records 5 of those programs a day :wall::wall: She then wonders why I'm clearing the summer house out and turning it into a second living room.... :wall::wall:

we have one and will ever have only one in the house.

I wont have them in the bedrooms, I cant stand the idea of my kiddies having a tv in their rooms, I want to see them, not know they are upstairs lol

Same here; one 20 year old 14" portable colour TV, neither of us really watch it. In fact a couple of years back when i was decorating, it was put away in the attic for 3 weeks and we didn't miss it.

I won't have them upstairs either, Rosie and I chat and do things together instead. I never sit still long enough to watch anything anyhow. The boy is another matter - he sometimes watches it when he visits at weekends, but only really for the Grand Prix.

We have just one - a small TV in the lounge, we Sky + nearly everything we want to watch and rarely cruise channels for the sake of it

I dont like TV's in bedroom for adults, I like my bedroom to be a quiet peaceful place

When I was a child we (family of three) had 8 TVs so I guess I am rebelling against that

When I stay in a hotel and have a TV in my room I feel compelled to watch it till well after midnight

We have two tellies - one large one in the living room, and the old living room one in our bedroom, which is never watched at the reception is just so bad. But its there just in case. The kids don't have tv's in their rooms, but they do tend to watch catch up telly on their computers. I can see as they get older, that we'll end up buying them one for their rooms as I don't think we'll want to watch what they want to, and also, we'll probably quite like the living room to ourselves at some point in the evening.

We have 4.

One downstairs for us - and either boy if he chooses to join us.

Youngest son got one in his bedroom when he was 8-10 ish. He is very dyslexic and if he had been able to read, I am sure he would have chosen books, but instead he would watch documentaries in bed!

Oldest son eventually got a TV too, just to be fair.

These days they only seem to watch BBC3 and rented DVDs.

The 4th TV, in our spare room, is very important as it has an integral video player, and is the only way we can watch the one and only video we have of the boys, recorded when they were 2/3!!

We've got 4 - big one in the sitting room with Sky+, old one in the kitchen/breakfast room with the Wii

... then I have one in my room which I got when I was 16 and hasn't been used for about a year!

Parents have one in their room too which the news is on in the morning :)

we used to have 4, currently 3 but 4 again soonish!

1 in the kitchen which lives in a cupboard so we can shut the door and not look like slobs!:lol:

Lounge

Kids play room (doesnt get put on often but it great when we need it!)

We used to have one in the bedroom but when we re decorated we promised ourselves a new one and haven't got round to it yet) We dont watch it very often but when hubbys away on business I like to have it on sleep so I can fall asleep with some noise (I always sing to radio so thats no good!) also the other week I was in bed ill for 2 days and would have killed for a telly up there again!

the ne in the playroom is only small as its the one that comes away with us in the caravan!

they are all connected up to the digibox too so I can watch my recorded stuff when I want (doing ironing / cooking etc)

The TV in the kitchen thing reminds me of when I recently had the downstairs rewired (wiring was old 1940s stuff and not compliant), the sparky couldn't understand how I didn't want a TV aerial point in the kitchen and gazillions of spotlights. I said 'no, one TV in the living room is quite enough'. 'which TV he said'.... he hadn't even noticed my wee set, which pleased me - I can't bear them to be the focus of a room. My neighbours have a humongous thing mounted on the wall, which looks very odd in a small Victorian house. :?

No Sky here, although we have an ancient Freeview box that was given to us by a friend; it probably doesn't even work any more. If there's something I wanted to watch, then I catch it on watch again, but that never amounts to more than an hour per week. Like the Major says, there are far more interesting and pressing things to be doing.

Jam, I only have one TV in the lounge. I don't like TVs in the bedroom either. I can take my laptop upstairs to watch BBC Iplayer or a DVD in bed, but I have only done this once or twice. I like watching tele in the mornings and after 8ish, but the rest of the time I am far too busy in the garden. I leave it on all day for the parrot though.

I once had a boyfriend who had a TV in every room, lounge, bedroom, kitchen and he bought me a portable TV for my bedroom for Christmas once. I gave it to my Nan who also has TVs in every room.

I've just renewed my mum's TV licence for her and was amazed to see you need a TV licence even if you don't have a telly, if you have any equipment you can watch programmes on as they are broadcast!

Yes, but it also means (and they don't like to publicise this) that you don't need a TV licence for a television that can't receive broadcast programmes. We've a few historical threads on the forum about this....

I may be wrong, but I think I read that there's debate as to whether they can/can be bothered to enforce that.

We have 6  and don't watch them much, how did that happen? :? The one in our room is very old and rarely used. The children have 1 each, but they are pretty sensible with them. We then have what was our dining room as a TV room with the only large TV in the house. We don't have a TV in the lounge that is a family space for reading and talking, we also have the dining table in there. I like it that way because we have to go into another room to watch TV and then at the end of the programme it gets switched off and we move back into the lounge. We also have one in the kitchen which gets used for BBC Breakfast mainly, OH likes it on when he is cooking, I hate it.

I hate Tvs that are just left on all the time.

My parents have not had a TV for 20 years and they still get threatening letters from the licencing people.

Best not introduce you to my sister then... she has the biggest plasma screen you've ever seen, and it pumps out noise all day, every day.... a sort of electronic wallpaper

I guess we're all different, that's what makes it so interesting.

We have 1 in the Living Room, 1 in the Kitchen and the boys (19 & 16) each have one intheir rooms. DD (8) and us don't have them in our rooms....however the number of TV's doesn't necessarily equate to lots of viewing time - I hardly watch TV, however when I do am more likely to watch it in the kitchen or listen to the radio through SKY.

now the people who don't watch tv how much time do they spend on a computer  all the same really i feel. I find constant loud music coming from my kids rooms more annoying than quiet tv watching :D theu didn't have tvs when they were younger and i'm so glad they didnt have computer games , i'm shocked how much young kids play them these days, oh no ! i sound like my mum lol

 I find the computer addictive! I do have the TV on in the background sometimes in the evenings, but am generally to be found on the computer. When I was recently in hospital, I laughed at all the ladies trying to get those silly pay to view cards to work, whilst I sat trawling ebay and the internet or listening to the radio for free. In fact, if it wasn't for the Amish teen programme and QI repeats on Dave, the telly wouldn't be on at all at present. I don't record anything either, so if I miss it, that's it.

That's not to say the TV isn't a great thing to have, there just doesn't appear to be much on for me to watch at present.
