First Wasp 2007

Recommended Posts

I think they are living in the wall of the raised bed around the patio as there is alot of buzzing and I seem to have a conservatory in their flight path I get at least 6 in a day if the door is open and loads keep hitting the windows when it is shut

Can't work out how they are getting in and out but I will  I need to get one of the cats to find the entrance for me

What a very topical thread!

We noticed at the weekend lots of creatures going into a gap next to one of our upstairs windows. At first I thought they were wasps, but when I went into the room to investigate, there were a couple in the room and they turned out to be honey bees

Now I don't mind having honey bees around, but we have a neighbour who keeps bees and I went to have a chat with her about them and we are going to have to get them "lured" away... that is unless we want honey seeping out through our window frames into our rooms!

So, she is coming down with a lure one evening this week, all being well. The question is, do we then want them in a hive or not? You either have to only move them a tiny way away, or many, many miles.....

I would LOVE to keep bees, but am not sure I have the time to do it, (nor the skill at present) and I worry about the dogs around them. What do you think?? Lesley????

We have thought about keeping Bees too - such charming, happy little creatures.

But I think its quite skilled & quite hard work :?

Did you read about this virus thats going around killing off whole hives of them? - so sad

I quite likt the idea of honey dripping into my rooms :P

That depends on whether you want to start spending money :?

We're desperate to have bees this year as we didn't manage it last year - but everything is so expensive. You have to be very careful with second hand hives because of disease - they have to be scorched to sterilise them.

Unless the bees are a very nasty strain then I wouldn't worry about the dogs.

We've had wasps around for a couple of weeks now - I know because my son is allergic to them and always lets me know in no uncertain terms if he's having any hassle from a wasp
