Cube price increase! :-(

Recommended Posts

I'm just so angry because you can't tell me that "Ooops, word censored!"ody knew yesterday when I telephoned and suddenly it was announced today. Why not be straight with me over the phone? Quin even went into the office to ask the others if they knew of any plans to increase the price. Even if they had said that they weren't allowed to say but it would be announced in the next newsletter. At least that would have been something.

Janty, I honestly did not know the prices were going to be increased, I had heard a rumour as had you! As it was the price increase was only announced by management yesterday - I am sorry I led you to believe that there was not going to be an increase but staff were kept as much in the dark about it as you were... :(

Best regards,

Hmmmm...

Remember the fantastic Eglu Go (suitable for up to 4 chickens) is still £330 including 2m run and accessories.

I wouldn't put 4 chickens in a Go! not enough room in the run!

Claret,

I think what you are forgetting is that the Eglu Go housing IS suitable for up to 4 chickens as is the Eglu Classic...

We always advise those who are thinking of keeping more than 2 chickens to extend the run by giving at least 1m of run space per chicken as the standard 2m run is only really suitable for 2 chickens.... And if you did not know the Eglu Go Run can now be extended to achieve this, the same as the Eglu Classic and the Cube...

You know as well as I do that many people have reported that their classic house sleeps over and above 4 chickens and the Eglu Go house is the same (it is after all the same size as the classic)!

Again, as you well know when chickens come to roost they all sleep on top of or close to each other... I have three girls in my Classic (with the extension I might add) and there is room for at least 2/3 more girls in the house itself!

Regards,

That's fair enough then but in a way that makes the whole situation worse. It's a terrible way for the Omlet management to treat their staff and their loyal customers. Just shows a total lack of care. Maybe a trip back to college for a course in management skills might be in order.

The other thing will be second hand eglus...they'll go up in price too as people will want a return on their money. :(

Janty - I think it's a shame you feel that way but personally, I fail to see how it's bad manners. They are a Business! They are entitled to run it how they please...no company would revel any plans or discuss rumours externally before the company released a statement.

Can you think of a company who would? In fact, I can't even think of another company that's so open and free with information - look at this forum for example! Perhaps this is what is clouding peoples judgement. Omlet are friendly, helpful and kind...but it's still a company who want to make money. You're a customer. If they don't want to give you corporate information, then that's their choice.

Considering how much Omet give the average customer, I think it's a bit rude for people to question them in this manner. They don't have to run this forum, they'd still sell hen houses without it. After all, a large amount of users here have one eglu and no intention to buy another...there are even those who don't have one at all as they don't get on with the design. Omlet haven't earnt a penny from them, but still allow them to use this amazing resource!!

"It's not personal, It's business!"

I think its not so much a case of there being a increase in price, more about the level of the price increase. £100 seems a lot to add to the cost of a cube and will mean that people look at alternatives as this is a considerable price rise. I've had lots of trouble persuading my OH of the benefits of a cube over a wooden house and now he says I should be looking at wooden houses instead (no chance)! Perhaps Omlet could offer a small loyalty discount to purchasers of Go/Classics who upgrade or people who buy a second Go/Classic or cube from them (they always used to do an introduce a friend thing which gave you some dosh to spend on the site)! I think its right what other have said that the second hand market prices will also increase. What you lose in one hand you'll get back in another (hopefully!)

I am well aware of that Quin... as you must know

However, when you speak to people who are thinking of buying either a classic or Go, they look at the Omlet blurb and see that it is quoted as taking 4 chickens, what they don't take in is that while the housing can easily accommodate that many, they will need to extend the run in order to allow them room. Not everyone, not even me, can allow their chooks to free range all the time... they may need to be in the run more when the days get shorter, or when we are out all day, so one has to allow for that and still calculate to allow at least 1metre squared of run room per chicken. Newcomers to chicken keeping will look at the housing as it is, without and extension on the run, and think 'oh, so that can accommodate 4 chickens'. Believe me, I have heard this countless times.

Just read this. Quite a shocking increase of 18% for the eglu and 16%+ for the cube!!:shock:

Just a question - how do people get the newsletter. Thought we'd asked for it ages ago but have never received it and doesn't appear to be anywhere to sign up when we looked?

I have Omlet on my facebook. Thats where i got details of the newsletter from :D

Anyone know when was the last time the prices changed (other than for VAT changes that is)? I would guess that the percentage increase when divided by the number of years since the last increase is not so huge after all.

From the newsletter:

As a regular reader of the Omlet Newsletter, you will know

that we have kept prices the same for over two years. However due to UK manufacturing price rises we will be

increasing the price of some of the Eglu range.

£50 a year :?

My OH works with lots of plastics in his industry and is surprised at the size of the increase in the price of Omlet products.

Really?

Mine does too & thought that as they hadn't risen in so very many years, where as the plastics prices have, the rise now was very reasonable.

Had the prices risen slowly on a yearly basis as have the price of the composite materials, would everyone be complaining as loudly I wonder ? :?
