What price for eggs?

Recommended Posts

I am getting so many eggs at the moment, I was going to start selling some to family and friends.

What price per half dozen do you think for mid to large?

I will just keep the tiny banty ones.

I gave a couple of half dozens away to friends the other week, 5 mediums and 1 banty, neither of them ate the banty egg, because they said it didnt seem right, looked abnormal!!! I found that very strange, what weirdos!!! lol

I occasionally sell half a dozen eggs and I charge £1.20, out of interest I had a look at supermarket eggs today and was surprised how much they are especially the organic. But I don't think I'll be putting my price up (mind you I have kept a running total of my actual price per egg to produce and including housing and fencing as well as normal day to day expenses it's far in excess of £1.20 per egg :lol: ).

And just to make it even more shocking - that's £7.20 for 1/2 dozen box of eggs!

I charge £1 half dozen, we sell 4/5 boxes per week which just about covers their food, but medications, cleaners, (housing extensions!) etc all come out of our pockets, there is definately no profit at £1 per box. Maybe I should put our prices up! People always say they would pay more, but I think I'd feel bad asking for more!

I charge £1.25 for a mixed box of medium, large and extra large eggs. Each half dozen will be a mix of colours inc. blue, pastel green, sage green, beige, white, brown in varying shades.

In order to get as many boxes back as possible I give 5p off for every box that is returned in a re-usable condition...sometimes I even get the elastic bands back too and small plastic bags which are useful

One of my customers likes only medium size eggs as she likes to bake with them...and I include an egg laid by Minnie as her son likes those :D

I have a new customer this week who usually buys extra large for around £1.70-£1.80...we have agreed a price of £1.60...sure they will taste better than her usual eggs so really should have charged her more....but it's not about the money I just want another customer to taste how lovely my girls eggs are :D

I charge £1.50 for 6 duck eggs and a £1.00 for 6 chicken eggs and i think i will charge £1.00 for 12 bantam eggs as they are tiny this is my first year with bantams does anyone know if that is about the right price for pekin eggs thanks leanne :)

Thats a steal!

£1 for 12 bantie eggs, they're small but not that small.

I'd dor £1 for 6, maybe even £1.50 still, even if they are banties, esp after all they put the same (if not more  ) effort into laying them :D

:anxious: Im too scared to charge anything for my eggs :anxious: !! I don't eat them myself (never really liked eggs  ) so give them away in omlet boxes of four. At the moment I am getting 2 or 3 eggs a day so I have quite a lot to give away, everyone says the eggs are so much nicer than the shop bought ones, which I guess is reward enough as I have the fun of the chucks as pets 8):D ! All my 'customers' know they don't get a refill unless they return the boxes though :shameonu:8)
