M&S Dine in :-)

Recommended Posts

I almost didn't get anything as I wasn't impressed, but I eventually decided to get 3 chickens, 2 portions of potato wedges (or chips, I think) one portion of garlic mushrooms, 2 lots of lemon soufflé and one strawberry trifle, two bottles white wine and the two pack of fizzy grape juice :D I have frozen two of the chickens and we will be having chicken and chips for Friday dinner

Was just DH and I for tea tonight but ours had lift/stock problems so a choice of two things when I got there. I got the Grill Hot & Spicy Sirloin steak, Garlic Mushrooms and 2 New York Cheesecake Slices plus the twin pack of grape juice. Was delicious

Rarely go into town so tried a dine in deal from Tesco. £10 for a meal. chose spiced meatballs with apricots, rosemary potatoes, profitteroles with choc sauce and a £8.99 bottle of wine all for £10. Added a bag of Tesco value salad 75p.

Really nice meal. I don't buy convenience foods as a rule but was very impressed with this.

Thank goodness I'm not the only mushroom hating vegetarian, squiffs you have just made me feel much more normal!

Personally, I don't think it's too much to ask for 2 veggie mains. We have our likes and dislikes same as everyone else. Perhaps they could swap one of their 25 chicken dishes for a second veggie dish?

There are 9 main dishes.

One is Veggie.

There are fewer than 1 in 9 people who are Veggie in the UK.

M&S are very savvy - they are not going to do more Veggie mains on an offer like this is they are not going to sell.

It is just marketing,& I suspect that they won't be changing this ratio any time soon.

I guess that means us lactose intolerant veggies will just have to pay full whack for our food  I mean... how hard can it be to put an inoffensive tomato pasta dish of some sort on the list, really?

EDIT: I'm not being picky, really, I sound more annoyed than I am, I just find it slightly patronising and annoying that I'm usually limited to choosing between something cheesy and something mushroomy, when there are other ways of presenting good tasting veggie food without overdosing on fungi or lactose.

OK, look at it this way......the sort of dish you are talking about sounds pretty basic & the Veggie dishes normally on the offer are on the more luxurious side - garlic, cream, cheese etc.

This is so all the mains will come under one price umbrella (say £5-£7) - a basic tomato pasta dish (essentially a Vegan dish) would probably be too cheap,in which case paying full price may well be better value than the meal deal anyhow.

My veggie girl doesn't like Mushrooms much either :lol:

I still think they have got it balanced about right.

Veggies are still a minority group,& many other (kosher,Vegan,Nut Allergies) are not catered for in the deal often,if at all :D

It is a shame, but they cannot please everyone, sadly.

I think the price of the main in and of itself would be irrelevant when you add in a bottle of wine and a side, really, but that's just me. :)

Cinnamon, I agree with you about the basic pasta dish. They do actually sometimes have a mediterranean pasta bake in the deal (think it has mozzarella in it) but I don't go for that, as I cook that kind of stuff all the time at home. I'd rather see something on the menu that I wouldn't bother to cook at home.

The goats' cheese and pesto en croute actually looks pretty good, but I what I would really like to see back on the £10 which I haven't seen included for ages is the veggie moussaka... But of course, that's my favourite dish, the other 4 million veggies out there might disagree with me entirely... which is why it would be nice to have a choice of two dishes
