:lol::lol:

Juxtaposition.

I remember, as a teenager, hearing someone say that if they learnt a new word, then they made it their aim to use that word three times that day, thereby never forgetting it.

Brilliant idea.

Next word I stumbled on was juxtaposition. I've never forgotten it! 8)

Just thought of some more words I hate

Flaccid

Ulcer

Phlegm (unless its in the new Harry Potter book, where it is used to very good effect)

In fact, I am not keen on any medical sort of words....all a bit icky,really.

I also loath "text speak".

My 2 girls are proficient in it, & are forever saying "dat" instead of that & "dis" instead of this, on forums & MSM Messenger.

It drives me MAD!

I have yet to come across it to that extreme Dan, but am not at all suprised by what you say.

How willing our young are to overlook their own heritage in favour of something that is seen as fashionable.

A pity.

What so many do not understand is what some of these words actually mean. I was horrified to hear a friends child use the expression (for it cannot be a true word) "Ho" as a description of a woman he was describing.

I truly do not think he knew what that means, & his mum certainly didn't!

:shock::shock::shock:

I'm with you on the texting Kate. My children are continually teasing me about the fact that I at least attempt to spell everything correctly, and punctuate my texts :roll: .

On wednesday I was working late, hubby was away & daughter had gone to a friends for her evening meal, and then onto a school open evening. So, not fancying the idea of going home and cooking just for myself and my son (it had been a particularly arduous day :roll: ) I texted him "do you fancy a take-away, if so what?" The reply came back "n e fin c u l8r" :shock: .

He very nearly got baked beans on toast as a reward for that little effort

Who said they don't like medical words :? There are some grotesque ones (haemorrhoids & melaena being 2 of of the ones that make my toes curl, which was a worry when as a midwife we had a spate of parents calling there new born babes Melena :shock: ), but I just love glomerular filtration rate 8)
