Greta has a new friend *pics*

Recommended Posts

Well me and my OH went to look at a possible friend for Greta yesterday, and I put the cat basket in the car just incase  .

The first place we went to had mainly polands and poland crosses, (not to my tastes I'm afraid). They also had orpingtons which I quite liked but they were just too big, in fact they were massive  .

So we went to Elmsleys Farm Shop where we got our original girls from and asked if they had one they could let us have, well he said all of the POL he had had gone, BUT he had just one left :D . We went to go see her and she was all alone in a big dark shed. So of course we took her :D:D . She is my chicken of fate, a lonely young girl to keep a lonely pensioner company.

My little Rose :D

I have never known a chicken like her, she doesn't mind being picked up or cuddled and already likes to sit on my shoulder :lol: and she certainly isn't camera shy

Greta was furious at having to share her home with a young whipper snapper  . But I'm sure with time she will learn to love her as I already do.

I'm sure thats what my rescued hens felt like when we got 2 POL hens; "look Bessie, how dare they stay up until 5:30! And jumping up on our house and the gate!"

(those times were before we put the clocks forward  )

Just wondering if they are stones/wood chips in your WIR

Both. Started off as a bed of large gravel with a few flags dotted here and there and then put a layer of hardwood chips down on top of the gravel. But has got all mixed up with the chickens foraging  . Have been thinking of taking out the large gravel (apart from under the flags) and replacing with more hardwood chips because when I poo pick, it all goes in the compost bin (including some of the large gravel ).

And many thanks for ALL your lovely comments on my little Rosie. I just have to get her to eat some grit now as she doesn't seem to be digesting her food properly. This morning I found a mealworm that came out the same as it went in :vom: (dead of course  )
