OpiumEater
I've just put our new hen in the Eglu Go, and all is great, except she doesn't use the container for the food! I'm not sure if it's too deep for her to reach the food at the bottom. Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks Christine (and Alice)
LuckyChickenLover-
I stopped using mine for that exact reason. Also, I couldn't get the lid off to clean it. I ended up just using one similar to this: Or sometimes I just use a cheap metal bowl that I got for about £1 at Tesco.
chestnutmare
I've found that the Go grub needs to be placed lower than the classic. I have the classic and the go grubs and the chickens prefer using the classic.
crazy kc
Same here. I found my bantams couldn't reach the bottom. I phoned omlet to ask if anyone else had had the same problem and was told that "Ooops, word censored!"ody else had told them about it . Anyway I was advised to put something in front of it to use as a step this didn't work for me so I went the same route as Luckychickenlover with a similar style feeder. bouldercroft
I ordered an orginal grub/glug with my as I always liked the curvy lines and I'm glad I did... The new grub/glug is huge and my bantam struggles to reach it - also the glug is too open and all kinds of stuff ends up in it. I've got my new girls separated for introductions so I'm back to using the new glug/grub as spares. I've put a piece of wood in front of the new glug to give josie a step up and to stop them digging a deeper hole
percy049
ours didnt like the grub, so we got 2 plastic bowls from pets at home. We looking to get a 1kg plastic feeder and drinker, but I dont want to pay £4 postage!
karlotta
I didn't like the new grubs either but use the glugs (and the grubs when you take the tops off) for water for two reasons... 1. They are great for the ducks as they can get their head/neck in them to drink/clean, but can't stand/poo in them and get them filthy! 2.They are great for the winter as it's easier to get the ice out that the original glugs. TBH I'm not a huge fan of the original grubs either... My biggest girls (orps/brahma) have trouble getting their heads in and I'm sure it's rubbing the feathers on their necks. I'm gradually changing to other feeders, but can't quite decide what...
OpiumEater
Well that just about answers my question! A new feeder it is. I've currently managed to get the top off, and have the food in, but as you say, it is open to all sorts of much getting in. Plus Alice likes to stand on it I think Omlet, you have proof here that there is a problem with the design of the Go feeder. Thanks for everyone who helped me with my query. 52fish
The glug and grub which come with the Eglu Cube work well and can be purchased seperately.
Henergy
Yes I agree. I use the stand that can be bought too as I've a wooden coop. Easy to clean & chickens seem fine to eat & drink from them
goodinparts
Being non-conformist, my chooks seem to prefer the Go's glug & grub to those in the cube - though the bantams quite enjoy the "drip feed" approach of the old style glug that came with my ebay cube....They ALWAYS make the water filthy but seem to like it that way. They just HAVE to be different
