xScrunchee
Hi all, Just a quick one to let you know that Ria has had her first egg. I have read so many messages where people say that you will never forget the date of your first ever egg and if I'm honest I thought that unless I write it down I would never remember. (Memory like a seive) lol Anyway, on Sunda morning at 5.15am I received the worst phone call you could imagine. My Mum rang to say that she had just got up and found that my Dad had died in the living room!! He was only 46 and in good health-or so we thought. It turned out tha he had a massive heart attack. Not a nice topic to go on and on about so I will stop talking about it. My point being that when we got home from my Mum's late that evening we found our first egg!!!! At first I couldn't care less to be truthfull-and no, no egg dance I'm afraid!! (Although I was looking forward to doing that had the circumstances been different ) but anyway my Dad had already put his name down to try the first egg, and the strange thing is that Ria laid on Sunday and has not laid since. I like to think that she laid that egg for my Dad. (You must think I'm a looney!!) lol Didn't mean to post such an awful piece of news-don't really know why I did but I will never forget the date of our first egg! xScrunchee
Oh No.....I am am so very sorry to hear the news about your Dad. What a dreadful, dreadful shock. Deepest sympathy and love to you and your family. Thank you very much Eglutine. Just thought that I'd say I don't expect anyone to reply-I'm not really sure why I even posted the topic-loosing my marbles I think!! I know that's it's horrible and I don't want anyone to feel that they should 'say something'! The main point is that Ria is a little star-bless her!! Please, please don't feel obligated to think of something to say-it's fine. Thank you all for giving me so many things to read about chickens-my girls are getting on so well and I think it's because of all the info I've got from you lot. Thanks guys
P&P
So sorry to hear this, and genuine sympathy to all your family (my Dad died in a similar way some years ago). All our thoughts are with you.
Jill
So sorry to hear your news. What an awful shock it must have been. It is amazing how often something strange happens which makes you wonder if there is a link. When my dad died a few years ago at his burial a large seagull sat near to us in the graveyard watching and my dad had always said he would come back and visit us as a seagull. I don't think we ever know everything but it is nice to imagine that some things happen for a reason. Look after yourself.

Jools
I am so very sorry to hear your news. There's no doubt whatsoever that the egg was laid in honour of your dad and very well done Ria for being so clever. Thinking of you.

zircon
I am so sorry to hear your news, we had our girls the day after you and I have been sharing your fun, and now feel your sadness. Times are really hard now and no words are any comfort for your loss, although they will be in time. I hope you and your family get through this difficult time. Kathy C
I am so sorry to hear about your dad Jay. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. The forum is just the right place to share the good and the sad times, it feels like we are all best friends. I have no doubt that animals are sensitive to how we feel, I've experienced it too many times to have any doubts. Ria not laying since that first time on Sunday is no coincidence, I am sure. She will always be special to you, you share a bond. Please let us know when the funeral takes place so we can think of you. Take care. The Dogmother
Such sad, sad news Jay - I am so sorry to hear it. No amount of sympathy from us will ever help the hurt you must be feeling. If you still have it, blow that egg and keep the shell as a reminder of how clever your chook was. Big hugs for you and yours CX
theherd123
Im so sorry to hear the news about your Dad - how shocking for you all. My thoughts are with you at this very sad time. Its seems a bit daft to congratulate you on your first egg after such tragic news but i bet your dad would have been really pleased for you. beach chick
my greatest sympathies too, my own father died the same way 10 years ago when I was 34 weeks pregnant with my first child... the only good thing about it is that you know there was no suffering for him, even though it is a terrible shock to the rest of us left behind. Clever Ria though - now, if it was my Dad, he'd be SO annoyed to have missed it!! much love to you and yours.
landgirl
Everybody before me has said such nice things and proved by their care and love that you were quite right to post your thoughts here. You are amongst friends. kind regards Landgirl

(You must think I'm a looney!!) lol No, I don't think that at all as that's just the way I think sometimes. It's a speck of comfort at a difficult time to think about your first egg like that. What a clever little hen, bless her. Thinking of you.

The Dogmother
Chelsea's right - this forum is a great support network, we often come on here to moan, gripe or let off steam. 46 is only 2 years older than me Please convey our sympathies to your mum, I can't even begin to imagine what she's going through.
