Purplemaniacs
After talking to the police, the insurance, the engineers (loss adjuster) it would seem that stealing cars to order & shipping them out, is on the up especially for new 4x4 cars. Ours wasn't new but was in immaculate condition and with a private plate disguised its real age. We have a Land Rover and worry about that being taken as there seems to be thriving market for stolen ones, ours is not new but that does not seem to matter. Friends had theirs stolen police thought they had been watched for days before hand, never recovered believed to have gone abroad. Neighbours had theirs taken, quite an old one, he got his back but it had been driven accross fields and through hedges so it was in a poor condition. It is so sad that people do these things. Mrs Webmuppet
Sadly shipping high value stolen cars out of the country is all too common. Well done to the Police for finding your car and the other cars. You must be so relieved to be getting it back.

Seagazer
That's fantastic news, you must be so relieved. Reikiranf told me that you live near us. In my road alone I know of 2 4x4s that have been stolen. My friend's was stolen from her drive last year. The house across the road from me actually saw his car being stolen. It was during the icy period and he had started the engine and done the classic thing of popping back inside for something. He chased them down the road. In reality I suppose it happens everywhere but it is worrying when you hear so many cases of it in your local area.

Yorkshire Pudding
That's really good news, it must be a great relief to get it back. This thread has made me look careful at where I leave my keys.
The Dogmother
I was talking to my boss about this and they've had one incident on the close where he lives. He takes his car keys up to bed with him.
Plum
Glad to hear they found it and amazed at the stories of what goes on.
chuckmum6
Very glad this worked out for you, horrid experience. I will show this to OH as we have a new Volvo XC90 and he always leaves the keys in a bowl in line of sight through the letter box. I am going to buy a key store today, to put our keys out of sight - thank you! I have been moaning about it for years but never actually done anything! Snowy
Great news Mummyhen - glad you will get your car back! Same thing happened to my BIL - woke early (6am), went downstairs, unlocked the back door and let the dog out, made a cup of tea and went back to bed. The thieves nipped into the back door, nicked all the car keys and out the front door and stole both their cars! The posher car was found parked in a side street (again, left to see if would be tracked) but the cheaper car was trashed. They must have known BIL's routine
