barking dogs

Recommended Posts

slight rant - WHY do people let their dogs bark incessantly?? we have a sheltie at the bottom of the garden - lovely dog, but every time I go out she starts yapping and does not stop. next door have 3 lurchers - again, nice dogs, but they 'play' so loudly, growling and shouting at each other, Ozzie wont go outside when they are out.

both sets of neighbours are nice people, but they just dont seem to notice!! Oz has one very peremptory bark, which is issued twice a day - at midday for lunch, and at 4pm for tea, he has me well-trained :D other than that he never barks - useless watch dog, but at least its not annoying... sorry, small in the scheme of things but it does get on my nerves when I'm just pottering around. on the other hand, I suppose my kids are annoying at times but at least I do tell them to quieten down :)

I have mentioned this elsewhere as we have a neighbour whose small yappy dog seems to be left outside until late at night and makes its feelings known ... all the time

I don't let my two out in the garden unless I am with them and I don't let them bark in the garden as i am sure that it would annoy neighbours as much as others dogs barking annoys me. Lurchers naturally play 'rough' and will do the old 'soup dragon talk' (a bit like yodelling  ) to each other - it means nothing. Mine do a certain amount of rough play but I don't let them get too loud.

Just in case you think they are deprived, they get plenty of walks in rural areas where they can work off their steam and be as noisy as they like. I just try to teach them good manners.

Teaching an exessive barking dog to bark on command and then teaching a 'sush' command can work.

I have 6 dogs in my kennels at the moment, You wouldn't know that they were there unless a stranger

approched the kennels.

I find that it is the best intruder alarm ever!

I can never quite understand why the owners of the barking dog aren't driven mad. OH had to ring the owner of a dog over the road a few weeks ago at 3am. The poor was standing on their doorstep and had been barking for 3 solid hours. It is a noisy dog even when it isn't locked out in the early hours. He phoned because they didn't answer the door. They didn't even apologise or sound horrified that they had shut the poor dog out. How did they not hear it? It woke up half the village

I am the owner of Yorkies ( there one main fault is they are yappy ) and i have to admit they do bark when people pass the gate and at the neighbours dogs over the road...a yorkie and chuauhah.

It is the one fault they have, we have been to classes and they still bark.I let them outin the garden, but when they start to bark i call them in, and late at night only one at a time is allowed down the garden as i know the pair of them together will incite each other even if they spot a hedgehog or worse a cat.

I know they are not perfect .

My neighbours tell me to leave them out as they are quiet compared to three other neighbours with small dogs who let them out after midnight when they get in every weekend and leave them out in all weather crying barking and scratching at the door to be let in.They just don't seem to care.

I am a responsible dog owner and yet i hate the thought that my dogs may annoy anyone else, especially on a nice day when they are all out in the garden having fun.

I have noticed that among the tiny dogs in our cul desacs mine are the only ones to go for a walk every day.

When I let Tommy out the first thing he does is charge round the summer house and let out a couple of barks (more of a warning to the foxes to say please leave I think  ).

He will grumble when someone is coming up the path but thats about all. If someone knocks on the door all hell breaks loose!
