Egluntyne
Too lazy to put it away when I cleaned the Eglu's on Saturday! Well the news is not good in Sheffield..... A 13 year old boy has been swept away in the River Sheaf in Millhouses Park, which is a 10 min walk from my house. It is normally no more than a brook at that spot. The Police Helicopter is up, and we can hear and see it circling over. The Station has been closed, as has the interchange at Meadowhall. The Don is about to breach its banks. It is just awful. The Meteorological station in Western Park has recorded the wettest month ever since records began there in 1882.

theherd123
Oh Egluntine i do hope the weather up there improves for you soon! I heard on the news that some places in Britain had experienced over one metre of rain in a day!
Charlottechicken
Oh my goodness Egluntine, take care up there Kev, we had snow in June once here too, in the 70's probably the same year? It has just stopped after about an hour of heavy rain here. Someone in Hull has died trying to unblock a drain
Couperwife
it seems to have stopped raining for a minute up here, I cant believe that its nearly the end of Jun and Im sitting here with a fleece on, I'm also wearing socks (obviously with lots of other clothes too ) and ive got the heating on its pigging freezing

Guest
Egluntine, the news in Sheffield is dreadful. There are reports of helicopter rescues with people stranded on unsafe rooves and water flowing down the street. Really horrible! I'm thinking of you too - and I think there are other Omlet people in Sheffield as well - I hope you are all right. Will you have to bring all the girls indoors? red
It's very wet and windy here too - our cottage is high compared to sea level but in a dip and we have a stream running through our land that was gushing VERY loudly last night - our greatest risk is run-off from the fields. I was very impressed with the counci however - I awoke to find a man in a big tanker type thingy clearing all the drains down our lane at 8am this morning - without it I'm sure we'd have been in trouble as all the debris would have blocked them up and our side courtyard (which is three steps below road level) would have been at risk The wind has picked up now too bringing with it other problems (I had to dodge lots fallen tree branches on the way home). Thinking of all of you who are at risk - especially those of you in or around Sheffield. Hope it improves soon.
The Dogmother
It's very windy and cold here tonight too, the rain is thudding on the utility room roof and the River Cherwell is on flood alert again Keep safe all of you.
Guest
it's been blowing a gale here all day, but only light winds. It's absolutely blumming feezing though, and the local radio station was forecasting ground frost for sheltered areas tonight.
Charlottechicken
Well, today is gloriously sunny here in Brum Pity it's only 8 degrees though Never mind, I am sure it will warm up when the rain rolls in again
Egluntyne
Blue sky and some sun here. It has stopped raining!
Charlottechicken
It has stopped raining! Thank goodness for that!
Lesley
Glad to hear it's stopped raining Egluntine We're at risk from run off here as well, but so far we just have very boggy ground with standing water. Our Big Green Poo Machine has problems again though - because there are underlying problems with the soakaway. I'm trying to find out more from the Building Regs. man at the Council so that i can see whther it will be covered by the New Build House insurance which was taken out by the people we bought from. In the meantime I'm waiting for the man to come and empty the septic tank - again They have been inundated with calls. A dry, sunny but cold day here so far. Egluntyne
It is cold isn't it. Good luck with the insurance and the Poo man.
The Dogmother
Cold and sunny here with just 8 degrees first thing this morning, clouding over now though. My tomato plants were flattened last night - need to put new stakes in this evening if it's not raining. Chose a window in the rain yesterday evening to get Phil to help me with medicating the chooks... guess what? It started bucketing, so the two of us were shivering with the rain boucing off our kagools, syringing medication into the reluctant beaks of our ladies
Charlottechicken
Well, now the rain has actually stopped I have been sent home from work as the electrics have blown! I have not been sent home from work before so don't know what to do with myself (probably housework ) I can't get the car near the house as there are so many people who use our road as a free car park, and am freezing as they made us wait for an hour outside after deciding that for health and safety reasons we could no longer stay in the (cold dark and unheated) building. now I have to phone an emergency number tonight to see if they have fixed the fault for work tomorrow. Sorry, rant over, now I am embarrassed as some of you will be knee deep in sewerage Oh by the way it is cold and overcast today in Brum
starboyhull
The weather here is getting back to "normal", was really sunny earlier, but its cloudy again now......Seems as though most of the flood areas around here have just gone now......Which is good news..... Guest
Enjoy your day off Claire It is freezing here as well, we had our heating on last night it was so cold It's the end of June for goodness sake The only upside is, it's not raining........yet
Guest
We're cloudy, but bright and dry. Still quite cool though. I woke in the night with my teeth chattering uncontrollably, I was so cold! Can't believe it's July on Sunday!
Laura & CTB
I woke in the night with my teeth chattering uncontrollably, I was so cold! I resorted to the electric blanket but I refuse to switch the heating on (so I sat all evening on the sofa wrapped in a blanket)
Egluntyne
Bloomin' cold here. I must confess I lit the fire last night.
starboyhull
I've had the heating on full here, think some of the water got into the air bricks.....Living room smells a bit damp (luckily bare floor boards so no carpet to worry about), so heating on full and windows open......Hopefully the smell will soon go...... The Dogmother
I didn't light the stove last night and was so cold by the time I had a shower, that put my winter PJs on and switched the leccie blanket on too. On the radio this morning; we have Japan's rain - they normally have torrential downpours in June, but have a heatwave instead... no consolation, I know
Guest
I wonder if they are interested in a swap I quite fancy a heatwave not for too long though
