Crooked Chicken
..... wonder what the trick would be ....... throwing eggs maybe, or perhaps sneezing!!
Guest
I saw that too Clare. Really made us laugh. I think the trick is definitely sneezing The treat (an egg ) might have the same effect
The Dogmother
Round here if you don't give the kids a treat they chuck eggs at your house! Just got a great poster from my friendly copper - says 'No trick or treat - do not disturb' - bet it won't work!
red
I would imagine that'd make things worse
Guest
I just say 'Sorry - we don't do that' and shut the door. We get a few bits of silly string on the car, but that's all. I hate the custom though and don't understand why people encourage their lovely children to dress up in ugly costumes and go round frightening their neighbours. Mine don't take part at all. Popcorn
Awwww...come on guys....Halloween is just a bit of fun for children to dress up and have some fun. I understand that there's always the odd child who goes too far (throwing eggs is outrageous!) but I have fond memories of Halloween from when I was a child and will definalty do the same for my children. Nan used to get dressed up as some ghoul and we'd have a witches tea-party in our home-made costumes before we went trick or treating. I think more people should enter into the spirit and have a bit of fun with it. We all used to have a real good old time
SarahJo
Don't worry Gina ... I am with you on this one. I remember trick or treating (Guising in Scotland), and will take Ben and Joe out after tea .. then come back and hand out treats to our callers. . I am a bit of a die hard "any excuse" ... so balloons are ready, and the boys are going to bake some halloween cookies and carve their pumpkins which they grew in the garden. . Having said that ... I only call at neighbours, and houses where I know there are kids. . Am making Thai Pumpkin soup too .. so nothing goes to waste
Popcorn
Hurrah! Thank you Sarah, I thought I was the only Halloweeny out there Yes, we only used to go to neighbours who we knew too. Not all of them had children though. Baking cookies....now there's an idea

Nicola H
We are the same we always get dressed up and go trick or treating we have a party at my friends house and all the little ones love getting dressed up and calling at all the houses on the estate...........Sometimes the older ones cause trouble but all the mums soon see them off. Cinnamon
My children really want to go trick or treating this year, but as we have no street lights, live on a fast country road & all our neighbours are elderly, I don't think I can let them. I know it is supposed to be a bit of fun, but I can't get over the fact that it is a bit like begging....asking for treats....& I really don't like that. Sorry if I sound like a kill joy. Maybe its different if you live in a more populated area with a younger average age & everyone does it ????? In all my 15 years of living here we have never had a single trick or treater at our door, but we do enter into the spirit by putting out lit carved pumpkins on out gate pillars
Mrs Frugal
Mine never go out trick or treating but we get our fair share of knocks on the door. Ollie likes to dress up and hand out sweets in costume. He's a dead ringer for Gollum naturally so you can imagine how scary he was wrapped in bandages dressed as a Mummy !! I don't think he plans to dress up this year (thank heavens!) but I always make a Halloween cake with something scary on top and some pumpkin shaped biscuits for the boys. I do like getting carried away!
Cinnamon
Oh kate, you are good! I just go to M&S & buy the Halloween goodies for my girls
Tom and Barbara
I know what you mean about the begging bit Sarah. It worries me that my mum panic buys lots of sweets etc because she's afraid of what 'trick's they'll play if she doesn't hand something over. I tell her just to not answer the door at all. I get a bit bah humbug about the kids coming round - especially when they don't even bother to dress up!! I wouldn't mind if it was small children getting in to the spirit, dressing up and having fun but it does seem to be mainly teenagers just after some freebies........sorry i sound really mean.... i do dress up to go to work though and make pumpkin-type things
SarahJo
Did think of it like begging too at one point ... but then the kids love to dress up, and have their faces painted now, so I like to make the effort for them. We only do say 6 houses of trick or treating, and they usually have treats from me (Thorntons) ...... I am also a fairy light and balloon queen, so have sets and bunches for all occasions ... Tom and Barbara
...ooooooooooooh face painting...........can adults get their faces painted too? ....
SarahJo
...ooooooooooooh face painting...........can adults get their faces painted too? .. but of course . I am the chief face painter for the school now, and used to do it at a Safari Park, where I worked. Ben loves to be Darth Maul ..... great to wash off in the bath . I love painting faces ... and when kids come round for tea .. they invariably go home with a "face"
