Sorry can I just have a rant!!!!!

Recommended Posts

:twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted: My father has just gone out and bought another car...ok secondhand...but he's taken out finance again!!!! :wall::wall:

Me & hubby bought a bungalow for them last year. Hubby had been out of work for nearly a year, we had no savings, debts were mounting but the bungalow is just around the corner and was at a very good price. )We will in Derbyshire & my parents lived in Kent)

We remortgaged to get the deposit and took out a buy-to-let. Yes we do charge a rent but it doesn't cover the additional costs of the combined mortgages.

My dad is 80!! We sold their place and the proceeds went to pay off all their debts!! over 45K's worth. By time all the estate agent fees, new disabled wetroom installed, new windows & doors etc were paid there was about 4K left over which some way to clear my overdrafts I accumulated in paying 2 lots of solicitors, stamp duty, removal firm, land registry etc.

I spent all my free weekends zooming up & down the motorway to pack them up with 2 toddlers in tow. My parents are disabled and were unable to do the packing.

My mum is oblivious to the amount of debt that they had and she would be mortified if she knew.

They have a comfortable income and I'm terrified that he is going to saddle them with loads of debt again :(:(:(

Arrrggghhhhhhhhh :wall::wall::wall::evil::twisted::evil::twisted::evil::twisted:

Huw that feels better :lol::lol:

Thank goodness for that!

I had a similar thing (on a very smaller scale) I bought my sister a new carpet when the company they bought one off went bump. I bought this out a redundancy pay out. They were going to pay the money back. I was hurt when they went on weekends away and they still owed me the money, i was struggling myself at the time.

I hope it get sorted :)

Rant away - my dad drives me nuts. Today when I called sound like he had a tummy bug. Advised fluids only - hes been eating which will prolong it and was going to go out! Advised him not too in case its very likely contagious and might be caught short - I despair - OH far from sympathetic and muttered " if he goes out and is caught short let it be on his head" :vom: we then fell about laughing having realised his faux pas

its a problem when parents get older...sadly mine have both 'shuffled off this mortal coil' but I remember my brothers panic when my dad decided he wanted to change his will. I now realise this might have benefited me :( but never mind. It may be that your Dad was somewhat pressurised by a thoughtless salesman..hope all goes well in sorting the issue

lol. I pity the salesman when I get my mitts on him tomorrow.

Unfortunately there is only me left now (2 deceased brothers) so anything they do now I will have to sort out later :?

At least I won't have anyone to argue with over the will!!:lol: with saying that I know there is nothing so I'm just trying to stop them creating debt that i'll end up having to pay!!:lol:

lol....We've been closing his credit cards/loan accounts....it's amazing how difficult they make it!!

Must admit I bemused as well that they gave an 80 year old, with a walking stick & with his hands shaking a loan as well. He can't secure it against a property as we own it!!:lol:

hey ho we will sort it out tomorrow :D

when mom died a few years back she had run up a fair sized credit card debit with exceeded any assets which we only found out about after she died. My main concern was that I'd loose the house as it was in both our names as Id be liable for the debt but after taking legal advise been as there was no will and I wasn't executer then only the money in the estate after funeral costs was needed to pay of the debts pro rata. only one cedit card company was a pain to deal with all the rest excepted that due to a stuff up with the income tax that it would take 12 months to pay out

WOW. You did really well. When my MIL passed over we had to clear everything. Luckily as she had been ill in hospital I was dealing with the estate so we knew exactly what was what...which made it easier.

It didn't stop the vultures on the doorstep...alias 2 sisters & 1 brother...funny how they weren't there to help at the time but where there to try and claim inheritance!! lol...there wasn't any...apart from the house which was a wreck (which was left to my hubby, which we renovated. The house was built by his father) Everything else was left in trust to the grandchildren :lol:

Well the car purchase is cancelled. My dads car is booked in with my garage on Thursday for a full service/inspection. My dad reckons it doesn't start properly....he is deaf without his hearing aids & currently only has one as my dog ate the other one !!:lol:

I've said to him that we will see what the garage says is wrong with his car and how much it will cost to fix 'V' the cost of a replacement.

He'd bought a Corsa!! Nice cars but it's too low...he's disabled and would have problems getting in or out!!

Give me my toddlers to deal with anyday!!!:lol::lol::lol:

Power of attorney is on the agenda. We have a solicitor standing by. Just trying to do it gently :(

Glad it worked out! Can I add one of my own? We are going through something similar with my in-laws, but much more difficult to fix. When my husband's grandparents died, they left a lot of money to my mother and father-in-law. I'm not sure how much exactly, but probably over a million dollars that had been saved over a lifetime. My in-laws blew it in one decade! They took trips, donated to charities, spent lots on the kids and grandkids, but worst of all, they bought a second house on the water during the most active hurricane season in memory! The first house was washed away the same year they bought it. My husband and I urged them to sell the land because real estate was booming right after the hurricane, but no! That was their dream to own a house on the water! And not just any house, a big fancy, unique house that my FIL would build himself with the help of one of my brothers-in-law. Now they have gone through all their money, the house is nowhere near finished, and my BIL is fed up with it and no longer wants to help. They mortgaged their main house to keep building and we loaned them several thousand for taxes and materials which we will probably never see again. They paid for our hardwood floors back when they were flush so I figure we have just paid them back for that, but that's it, they aren't getting anymore! My FIL is under the delusion that he will at least get his money back when he sells, but there's no way that will happen in this economy. We just want them to get rid of it and cut their losses! At least we won't be squabbling over all their money when they die! They might even sell a lot of their possessions to keep building this white elephant! :wall:

Is it time to think about Power of Attorney, scubababe?

I think that would be a good idea - to stop him/them being taken advantage of by unscrupulous salesman again! As for the credit cards??? it would have been better to have left a small balance and not pay the amount due one month - this would then go down as a default against him and stop him getting any more credit again in the future!

i am glad sometimes theres just me - I suspect my dad will do summat silly before he pops his clogs. BIL was like a vulture - never helped OH and his other brother with dad but wasnt happy when the will left him nothing as he;d married a wealthy woman. hes money mad - rang recently to ask how we are managing now OH is not working - didnt tell him anything just played the ice maiden and passed him over to OH.

believe me in my job I see it all the time - greed is an ugly thing

Wow, glad you got it sorted out. OH's mum got power of attorney over his grandparents and thank goodness she did, long story but there was certainly tension between her and her sister and although the money was handled properly thank goodness there were things going missing from the house eg valuables. Obviously nothing could be proved as grandparents couldn't remember who had been in the house and when

Leeloo, your situation sounds like a tough one too. Good luck with trying to keep out of it as much as you can!

:lol: So much for feeling smug that we sorted out the car :?

A letter turned from a bank thanking dad for taking out a finance agreement :wall::wall:

I haven't got a clue on what he bought, how much or for how long :wall::wall::wall:

Oh well I will sort it out tomorrow when I take him to the garage to get his car checked :lol::lol:

I can see me taking his bank card away and giving him pocket money :lol::lol::lol:
