Re: Our school roof - kids back, all's well!

OMG!! That is awful. I care for an Autistic young man and know how change affects him. I hope things get sorted quickly. How did the library survive in the end. Sooo glad no one was hurt. Buildings & books can be replaced. Good luck in getting things sorted ((hugs)) to everyone

The headteacher's text said the removal contractors were going in yesterday. Not sure if that's to remove debris or to remove stuff we'll need at the temporary school (although how would they know what we need :? ?). I don't know yet what damage has been done internally.

They will surely remove all the debris before we all turn up for work on Monday but knowing Edinburgh Council, nothing would surprise me  .

Just had an email from Uni, the National Library of Wales was damaged too.

Metal sheet the size of 2 tennis courts was damages - there is a video but doesn't show much - and so a few of our Uni buildings was shut but are now reopen.

Don't know what damage was done to the inside of the NLW though!

What a nightmare :( . Spent the day with hard hats and high-vis jackets in a cold, damp, dirty building trying to find where our stuff is - the contractors did a great job of moving everything out of the affected rooms but it was all just dumped randomly in the 3 rooms that weren't damaged. They had no other choice, really, but have effectively saved everything from water damage  . Not a single book in the library is damaged - they're just all over the building in random piles  .

We had to sticker everything that we need at the new school - tricky when we have no idea what the accommodation will be (we get to visit tomorrow). The new school is absolutely empty - not a stick of furniture so we have to take everything with us. Everything else will go in storage till we come back - which could now be the summer  .

A few photos here (taken with my mobile so not great quality).

That's before we even start to think how we're going to teach the kids with no Home Economics, Science or CDT departments and limited rooms.

Sorry, Alli, it must need you to be on Facebook! I didn't want to overload the forum with all the photos but here's a small selection so you can share my pain  . Rubbish quality as taken with my fairly basic phone.

Apart from everything being damp and covered in dust and bits of roofing material, it's really just needing a really good dry out and deep clean - oh, and a whole new roof  . I suspect that will cause more mess than the roof blowing off  .

The kids are getting a week's extra holiday so come in next Monday to the "new" school (assuming we have everything in place for them).

That's the first few days of the kids being in our temporary "new" school over and it's all gone brilliantly 8) . There are still a few workmen around but overall they've done a sterling job (just shows how fast it can be done if necessary  ).

The kids are mostly coping well (but it may be a honeymoon period). We have no school bell and the timetable is having to be very flexible but it's proving to be quite a nice atmosphere :) .

We're all feeling quite happy as a staff (apart from the long commute) and have found loads of things we actually prefer  . Huge playground, massive rooms, fabulous staffroom, loads of windows and only one building for a start. I just hope we don't all hate our old school when we go back :? .

We even got praised by the Council for our "can do attitude" (very unusual apparently  ).
