How sad that the frontman of The Monkees has died suddenly at such a young age.

He was great....not my favourite Monkee,but an integral part of the band & a huge part of my childhood

The Monkees were so huge - been trying to explain the phenomenom of them & their weekend TV show to my daughter.

Have loved The Monkees since I was a mere babe. Apparently when the series was first shown, my uncle used to sit waiting to record the song at the end of each episode on one of those big reel to reel tape recorders and he used to go bananas because I'd 'sing' through the song! I was only about 6 months old.

Davy Jones was my first love. I used to sit in front of the black and white TV and noon over him. I even hatched a plan to parcel my self up in a box and get posted to him.

I had a big crush on him when I was a kid, he was such a handsome lad. Well, he wasn't really handsome, he was more "pretty", but that's what tends to appeal to young girls, isn't it?

 

He seemed such a lovely chap as well.

 

Last year there was a radio 4 programme about the time John Waite (who was about 20 at the time) hitch-hiking in the US, was given a lift by Davy Jones, and when Davy realised he was British, he invited him to stay at his home in Hollywood for a while. The programme was a reunion 40 years later.

 

I heard on the news this morning that overall the Monkees outsold the Beatles.

He does sound like a lovely man. I loved watching The Monkees, it was must see tv for me as a girl. I have to say he was always my favourite. I have Daydream Believer on a 45 somewhere. Sad news indeed.
