Dear Little Phoebe died today

Recommended Posts

I woke the girls up at 8 as usual today.

2 of them galloped down the ladder for food and Phoebe I assumed was laying an egg.

I asked OH to check on her later as I had to go to work.

He did check on her and found she had died, slumped on the rungs.

He rang me at work to tell me, but I kept my composure as I work with little ones.

The thing is, she was fine last night.

They had some left over peas and sweetcorn for supper, a bit more pottering about and then up the ladder to bed.

I checked her body when I got home earlier and could find nothing obvious.

Her feathers were beautiful.

I phoned the vets to see if I could just pop her in to be cremated as I said she was too pretty to put in the bin and I didn't want to bury her. They said that was fine and it only cost 2.09

Even the nurse who took her said how pretty she was.

Phoebe was my favourite. She was the one I carried in my hands from the breeders field to our rabbit boxes in her kitchen. She was perfect and she was just starting to get her fluffy bottom back.

Love you Phoebe xx

Oh so sorry to hear about little Phoebe. :(:(

I lost my lavender pekin Mary recently, she had to be pts.It broke my heart, she was a sweetie and had been sitting on my shoulder the evening before.

Do you have a pic of her you could post? Hugs to you.

Thanks everyone, you have all been great.

Phoebe was the smallest of my 3 remaining chickens and was the easiest to catch and give cuddles to.

She was probably the quietest too.

I do have recent photos of her, as I have been taking pics of the goings on with the arrival of their new run coming. Sadly she won't get to have fun in that. But she did enjoy helping dig the ground ready for the paving slabs they are going to have :D

So sorry (hug) x

Our little Mavis went the same way; she turned and looked at me as she went up to bed for the last time as if to say 'goodbye mum', I'm sure she knew. The next morning she was gone, all peaceful snuggled in the nest box - take some comfort that Phoebe slipped away quietly knowing she was loved and had had a really good life.

Take care.
