Joint accounts

Recommended Posts

In a joint account both parties are jointly responsible for the money/debt, no matter who puts the most money in.

Hubby & I have everthing joint apart from ISA's which can't be. When we married we said "everything I have I share with you!"

I have seen people clear out accounts, though. V unfair.

We have a joint account, but its only for our bills to come out of, I would never keep all my own personal money in a joint account.......If Andy ever needed anything and wanted the money he could have it all and vice versa but I think its good for couples to have their own cash......

we have a joint account and which we put money into from our seperate accounts to pay the bills.

Couperwife wastes all hers on food and shopping and shoes and then comes to me for more!:lol:

It's hard to buy suprise pressies from a joint account! and there are less arguments about who is spending the most. I think that only applies if you have enough money though. If you a skint bickering is much easier. :(

it is hard isn't it to buy surprise pressies from a joint account. Now when I do it, I pay by cash :D When OH does it he pays by Maestro, now since I check the account everyday......

See, we managed to change the thread on to the thing we all thought it was about anyway :lol:

OH always reads the posts when i'm on the forum when he's at home and laughs along but refuses to join. He has posted once using my login but i made him sign his name at the bottom. Abi has her own username, mini welly.

As for joint accounts, we don't have one, no particularly reason, just never got around to it. Working tax credit and child benefit get paid into my account and thats my money. All bills come out of OH's account and he gives me money if i go short.

We do have a joint account as the house is in both our names and the bills/mortgage come out of it.

Our salaries are paid into our own personal accounts and we transfer money each month to cover everything. The joint account only has a £100 overdraft limit! Him being sneaky to stop my spending me thinks!:lol::wink:

You know what? I wouldn't mind being a kept woman.... just for once...

what do you class as a kept woman? A Lady that lunches etc? Because thats how I see it. I dont like people thinking I'm kept. If I worked all my wages would go on childcare as we have three children preschool age. I orginally did a btech in childcare so wouldnt make much sense for me to go and look after someone elses children instead. But I most definitely not 'kept'

Sorry Bron, I certainly didn't mean it in that sense  , I just get fed up of being a slave to my pay cheque  I'd like to have enough money to have the freedom to make choices about what I want to do.

I've worked since I was 20, never had a break, only 8 weeks off when I had Rose then was forced to go back to work fulltime. I'd love to be able to go part-time.

Same here Clare - I've been working since aged 16 with 6 months off when my son was born and I want to be a kept woman - my idea is:

Swanning about at home all day, reading, watching TV, playing with chickens and cat. Someone elso to do the housework for me and CTB coming home after a hard day's work to cook the dinner for me while I sit in the hot tub drinking champagne :lol::lol:

*gonna wake up now*

I work 14 hours/week over 2 days, & we worked out the other day that it is not financially viable for me to work full-time (well, unless you call £1000 a year viable). With the tax credits we would lose, plus the travel costs it doesn't add up.

I don't work but i'd love to be able to swan around the house all day! I get told i'm lazy and i should work, they seem to think that i'm somehow not as worthwhile as they are. Of course i would work if i had too but i am extremely fortunate in that i could stop when i had Abi and became a full-time Mum. Now she's at school i have the house, garden, grocery shopping, chickens and very large allotment to deal with. Sometimes i think it would be easier to go back to work, its easier when you have someone telling you what to do and when.

I 'semi-retired' a couple of years ago -to work from home part-time. I seem to do more now than i ever did but I choose when I do it

Plus points for having a joint bank account..........

It can be easier to sort out finances if one partner should die and.......

When you put a solicitor in funds so that they can cmplete a house sale, and there is money left over to be reimbursed to your account, one partne has to sign a declaration so that it can be paid into a single name account  A trip to the solicitors office for me then  Last tiem that happened, 14 months ago, they automatically sent a cheque out in joint names and the bank won't accept it  - even with both of us there trying to pay it in

No, Lesley. As the cheque was made out to both of you then each of you is entitled to half the funds. I have been shouted at more than once by customers for refusing to accept joint cheques into sole accounts, even if the other party is there to endorse the cheque at the time of deposit. I do understand that the money does belong to those people, but they should also understand that I have good reason to follow procedures :D

It's a rare week at work if I don't get shouted at by a customer
