Wartime Farm

Recommended Posts

Did anyone catch this last night? I organised my chores around it; my grandparents had a smallholding at that time, so I remember some of the equipment. Phil's folks are retired farmers and slightly older than my parents, so they remember the equipment and practices clearly.

Wasn't it wonderful? I shall make a point of plugging in the TV to watch this every week. 8)

I missed it, busty chasing partridges around the garden in my PJ's!

I still go back and visit the old farm my great grandad had. He was also the squire of the village

and from what i was told he was a kind man. I have his old water barrel with his initials on somewhere.

 tell me that you weren't racing around topless!

It's on iplayer so you can catch up; I think there's an 8 part series - you'd love it.

Hes very Heathcliffish isnt he? I can envisage running cross t'moors with him after me - ok a girl can dream. Lily - why were you topless running after partridges - getting a nip in the air in the evenings for that sorta thing you know. Nearly vest weather again. (spot the Midland lass whose mum was a fan of vests)

Just watched this on record - great but my favourite was Tales from the Green Valley :D . Probably because we used to do Stuart re enactment before the boys arrived and sort of knew Ruth and one of the other presenters, historian Stuart Peachey. Ruth is a lovely lady who is so knowledgable, generous and passionate about history. Spent a fantastic weekend at a multi period event where Ruth organised the dancing for the re enactors on the Saturday night - in full 17th cent dress I ended up dancing with a 'medieval monk', '18th cent Red coat' and 'Roman Legionnary' who was wearing a VERY short tunic!

We really miss re-enacting and plan to return when the boys are a little more 'open fire/sharp weapons hanging around' savvy - history period yet to be decided tho drawn to Anglo Saxon (Regia Anglorum) as have had enough of corsets  !!!

Morwhellam Quay, where the Edwardian Farm was filmed, was fascinating; we spent the whole day there and there was loads to do. It was also very good value for money; if you happen to be in the vicinity its well worth a visit.

Looking forward to the rest of the series!

Ali's Girls.......did venture into one but decided on offie visits to get us through the week - cider and small beer being very authentic!

Getting back 'to thread' we all watched the wartine farm again this evening and it brought up lots of questions - many very valid and educational for ES aged nearly 8 going on 40. His real worry tho was how they were getting 1940's broadcasts through their radiogram!! No flies there, then!
