Heidi-Hi
What an awefull night. 03:34 - I woke up to the most horrible sound I have ever heard. I got out of the back door as quick as I could, armed with a BIG kitchen knife ( I must have looked so ridiculous!!) and a torch. Husband went fishing, so I was on my own I think I scared him off, but Millie, Mollie, Plymouth and Chocolate didn't make it I didn't find two of them till this morning, so he didn't even take any with him. I am so sad, I think the shock of dealing with it all is only hitting me now. Found a -(quite) shallow gap right at the back of the WIR hidden by some bushes. I still wonder how he got through there?! But he did, and I am numb by the carnage he left, and the 4 that is left is totally traumatised and won't let me anywhere near them. My 8year old is very upset, and I haven't even contemplated telling the 5 year old. Trying to get through today without replaying that sound in my head is going to be hard. Oh no, I just remembered what we are having for lunch. No way, I can't, not today

Olly
So sorry to hear it. It can happen so easily, the fox probably made the gap big enough to wriggle through - they are very determined. The remaining hens will get over it, more quickly than you will I expect.

Heidi-Hi
Thank you all. I am calmer now, but still feel quite unsettled. The 4 girls left over seems ok, although very skittish. Went to the shop and bought some eggs I wonder if he will be back tonight to come and look for his food. I am sure the run is now secure, but I won't sleep well Thank you for all your kind words x
