CatieB
But wouldn't you use common sense that an under 18 year old wouldn't be doing a weekly shop spending over a hundred pounds?
Cinnamon
Not really, especially in the area I live in We also got youngsters doing the weekly shop for their parents & paying cash, especially in the school holidays. We simply cannot be too careful - no shop cashier wants to be fined & no shop wants to lose their liquor license,& we usually get a couple of spot checks a week. bluekarin
But wouldn't you use common sense that an under 18 year old wouldn't be doing a weekly shop spending over a hundred pounds? You'd think. I was ID'd in M&S when buying a meal deal with wine! I carry no ID on me as I don't drive and my passport is safer at home. This was about a week or so after my 40th bday I do agree some kids look very grown up nowadays, so I really don't envy shop till peoples (sorry, word escapes me right now ) I live in the fear of not being able to buy alcohol if I have one of my kids with me as they are all teenagers
WitchHazel
Because it is difficult to tell about age, the guidance is usually to consider whether someone looks over or under 25. not 18. If the cashier thinks the person might be under 25, then they have to ask for ID. That's why more people than one might expect get ID'd. PurpleTree
I got id'd in Tesco once while doing the weekly shop. I had my 3 children & husband with me & the alcohol we bought was a 4 pack of beer. He only asked me for ID not my husband eventhough I pointed out the beer was for him. Luckily I had my driving licence with me, I don't know if he was trying to be funny or flattering or what, but I found it quite embarrassing
