Heidi-Hi
Hi all, Merry Christmas to you all Spoke to Rokers - Guildford way - this morning because I'm low on my Garvo layers pellets, and he told me they haven't got any, and is not stocking it anymore! He said something about the Garvo company being in 'trouble'. That is bad news for me. I love Garvo (well, not me, but my girls ), and I dread changing over to something else! I think I can get Fancy ... something (can't remember what it's called, think it's got a white bird or something on the front of the bag) from not far from here at Eileen Douglas Tack. Oh dear, I need to find food soon
Heidi-Hi
I've just found another thread about Rokers stopping supply of Garvo. So, I've found the tack shop and they do Fancy Feed for £9-60 a bag. I think I will go and get a bag and see how the chooks get on!
sjp
it's not so much that Garvo's in trouble but that they have a sole UK importer that has a high minimum purchase ammount. personally I've switched over to Matador which I'm finding very good and it might be the reason that a couple of my older girls have started to lay again after their moult
Margaret
Had the same trouble, in fact being going on for quite a while now. I always used to get mine delivered from Jim Vyse and he stopped in the summer Then Dobbies garden centre started to stock it and had to do a 2 hour round trio to collect, and when I tried just before Christmas they no longer stock it Such a shame as a great procuct, but have gone back to Wiggly Wigglers, still a nice procuct and the girls didnt seem bothered at all, so will go with them now, also they often do free delivery as well. Luvachicken
Oh no, Rokers is where I get my Garvo from too. Fortunately I do have 2 sacks of growers and a sack of layers for later, but looks like I'll have to get something else in future. Thats a real shame. good_egg
I order mine from hens 4 pets... Bit expensive with delivery but cheaper than round trip and better than grumpy girls!
sandyhas3chucks
Actually I "think " rather than Rokers saying Garvo was in trouble that they ARE trouble .... to deal with ... minimum orders etc. I really like the Garvo GRAIN products, but Rokers own proper mixed corn... ie NOT just wheat and corn(maize/dried sweet corn) Is pretty darn good. It has a REAL mix of various grains... very similar to Garvo . It is in a clear bag marked ROKERS... I would just like to find some dried shrimp/crustation to add to it .. Though as therw seem to ve a few of us get from Rokers I wonder if we could get a delivery to one f us, with just the one delivery charge to share ????? Heidi-Hi
I used to buy 6 bags or so at a time, as it was nearly 40 miles return for me to Rokers. (I'm near Wokingham). It helped of course that along the way there is a fantastic butcher in Bisley selling allsorts of South African goodies Will be a shame now that I don't have an excuse anymore to go past there! I wonder what a 'minimum order' would entail from Garvo?
Redwing
My local supplier stopped dealing with Garvo as quite frankly they were making life very difficult for her. Fancy feed is very good and a lot of ex Garvo customers have gone over to that. I have moved on to Matador as that is the closest in quality and composition to Garvo in the UK. An individual ordering from Garvo usually needs to order a pallet of feed which is about 1 tonne I think, the delivery charge is about £50 on top though
Hayleybug
My girls love fancy feed, prefer it to d&h and the pellets are quite small which is good for bantams. Got good testimonial from local boarding/supply place.
sandyhas3chucks
It's the quality of the mixed grain in the garvo that is hard to get in other foods, I believe in natural feeding of all species and totally against complete foods that are processed destroying. The natural goodness and meaning extra vitamins and minerals and whatever is then needed. To be added. Of course convenience foods are easy. There is a wonderful thread on p p. About natural feeding!!! I have found some dried insects to add tho my mixed grains. I am. Going to continue to trust those that say chickens know what they need as this has been my observation also! There will probably be times and reasons for additional. Supplements but that seems to be so of people dprocessed pellets too! Sorry editing on my phone on here impossible!!! Pearls007
I was planning a trip to Rokers in the next couple of weeks. Eek! It's a long round trip for me too from Caterham round the M25.

ohcarolina
I got my Garvo from Middle Farm (Firle by Lewes on the A27) Pearl. It takes me about 30 mins from Crawley. As everyone raved about it I decided to try it and they have a HUGE barn full of food and every chook product imaginable. Might be an option for you from Carshalton. Maybe we are all missing a trick here and should get together and do some bulk buying (to save on petrol rather than try and get any discounts). Hmmmmmm Caroline
Sageandonion
Oh that's annoying - I'm a Rokers Garvo girl too. Rokers is not too far from us and we get all our pet supplies from there. Will have to see what else they stock - pellets wise.
Pearls007
Is Lewis in Sussex any nearer Thanks Sandy. Might have to give it a whirl - I don't think it will be any nearer though!
coppers
I have been getting my Garvo from Middle Farm for a few years now and they usually have lots of sacks there, of lots of different types of feed. If you have a long journey to get to Lewes, I would ring ahead just to check they do have the Garvo that you want, phone number is 01323 815033. They are open Mon to Sat closing for lunch from 1.00 until 2.15 and are open Sundays from 1.00 until 5.00. There is a cafe and several shops to visit though if you arrive when the animal feed shop is closed. x
dixie chick
Flytes so Fancy always seem to have it in stock and their service is superb. I know it is expensive but my girls love it so much that I don't resent the cost ......
sandyhas3chucks
I just wrote down a list of everything in one of my garvo mixes. 24 different grains and brewers yeast!!!! am sure no one else does... but it does still bug me that it has GM soya in it !!! Cheeky Chooky
I have moved on to Matador as that is the closest in quality and composition to Garvo in the UK. The Dogmother
I found Gablestock co"Ooops, word censored!" mash to be very similar to Garvo mash.

(plus the fact that the car is full to the gunwales with duvets, pillows and goodness knows what else and we are heading back South today ).
