Lost dog may have drowned - happy update

My OH took our to spaniels out for an evening walk in the woods, but only came back with one, our springer Oscar,(8) had found some sleeping ducks and ran off chasing them. This has happened twice before and he has come home, he is normally obedient, but I think the instinct of a 'gun' dog takes over. OH waited couple of hours, before going back again at midnight to look for him. We were then out at first light trying to see what had happened. My fear is he chased the ducks onto the lake and fell through the ice, a horrible end.

We have put up posters and spoken to lots of fellow dog walkers, but I know he would have come home if he could. There was a fairly heavy snow fall last night so it was very hard to see whether anything had happened on the lake this morning, I can't see any positive outcome.

Yes, he is fine, he was found by a couple of girls, who caught him and took him home, his collar had come off. He was nearly home when they found him! Their mum saw his poster and brought him back, she'd washed him as he was filthy and snow covered! Very relieved, I really thought he'd gone under the ice!!!!! OH will be walking another route while the weather is bad!

Even though our posters were only up for a few hours, we have lots of people enquiring about Oscar, or offering help. It just shows how caring the people are in our village and how important animals are to so many. I have been very touched by the concern and so glad the news I could pass on was positive. Oscar is no worse for his night out, he stayed at the Hall (manor house)! Thank you all for your kind words too :D
