Eggasperated
Have been avidly watching the Glastonbury footage and being of the Rolling Stones era was looking forward to their set, however massively disappointed , I thought all the raw sound of the Stones had gone and Jaggers voice just didn't match up to how I remember it. But I thought Mumford and sons were great, I do have their second album so I know lots of the songs, and I thought they were far superior to the Stones. Perhaps the Rolling Stones just don't translate to Glastonbury - or are they all past it ?
freddie
Mumford. They're going to live longer!!
The Dogmother
We had this debate at work at lunchtime and watched videos of both online; I remember The Stones at their peak and still love them - they have that dynamism and raw energy they always had. Bear in mind that the sound systems at Glasto don't translate well on other media, but they sound fine when you're there. The Stones rea a group who you really have to see live to 'get' them. But then I'm not a massive fan of 'Bumfluff and Sons', they are OK, but not my style. As Robbie Williams said, they are 'like the Wurzels with a degree', I caught a few highlights last night and there were some truly dreadful acts in amongst the great stuff. Charlottechicken
I'm still trying to figure out what poor Kenny Rogers has done to his face
The Dogmother
From what I remember, he had a facelift a few years back - I thought he looked odd at the time - such a shame as he was ageing nicely, and he now looks like an ironed walnut. The old lovely seemed bemused to be there, but was obviously enjoying himself... he can still rock a tune Michael Kiwanuka was good as usual, but there were some truly dire acts - I caught Deep Valleys and Tom Odell while I was ironing and they were dreadful. Going back to The Bones; I hope i;m as agile as Mick when I'm that age, Ronnie looked good too, but Keef looked stoned as usual
bluekarin
Oh Mumford for me! They were fantastic and the final song was brilliant! I even preferred them to Arctic Mokeys and I was really looking forward to watching them. Not sure why I didn't enjoy them so much. Maybe the set was too long? The Stones were fun, but MJ has lost a lot of the strength in his voice and they all looked just a bit too old to be strutting round the stage pretending to be hip young dudes
Lavenders_Blue
I didn't think much to the Stones either. As others have said, Mick Jagger's voice is past it now and yes, they are definitely too old to be strutting around the stage like hip young dudes! Not sure about Mumford and Sons... They are talented for sure, but I think I'd like them more if their songs didn't all sound the same!
sadietoo
Have to say I thought BBC Coverage quite poor this year (John Peel we miss you soooo much!!) and lowlight for me was Jo Wiley asking Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys if it was really his Mum's Birthday and if she was really there...after he had got the crowd to sing Happy Birthday Dear Penny to her!!! OK back to the Stones/Mumford debate...sorry no comparison for us, or for DS who was there...Rolling Stones all the way........
patsylabrador
I've only really made the effort to watch Haim and Of Monsters and Men. They are my favourites right now and glad to see them at Glastonbury.
Ain't Nobody Here
In defence of the oldies I agree it may have been the sound system and general setup of Glastonbury that didn't do them justice. We saw The Who and Bruce Springsteen a few weeks ago and both sounded incredible and as good as they ever did .

I agree; I've been to Glasto and the environment inside those tents/stages isn't the best; most bands sound a tad ropey.
Cinnamon
Looking at the frankly horrifying pictures of The Stones on stage in the papers yesterday,I do wonder if they aren't becoming a little bit of an embarrassment. Mumford & Sons are one of my most favourite bands at the moment - I love their jingly, catchy, folky stuff, the way they dress & the fact that they seem to be genuinely nice guys. We are planning a trip to Glasto next year hopefully, so long as the line-up is good & they don't have Beyonce again
bluekarin
Apparently Kasabian and Foo Fighters have been suggested as headliners next year
Cinnamon
Oh nice - love both those bands Kasabian came into where I work last year & caused huge excitement among the staff
The Dogmother
Apparently Kasabian and Foo Fighters have been suggested as headliners next year That would be good I have to say that those photos in The Mail did look scary, but they were victims of very bad lighting and a degree of tweaking too this si from the press who can make most lithe female celebs appear to have cellulite!
