Chucky Mama
I have ordered a surprise Ocado delivery for next week ES who is in 2nd year at Uni Full of indulgent yummies. Only 4 can of beer (1 for each housemate) and lots of fruit Can't wait for him to get it. He had better be in! He has just moved out of halls into a house with 4 friends. I bought them a breadmaker and loads of bread mixes (2 for £1 at Lidl) and so they wake up to fresh bread every morning.

Ain't Nobody Here
You are a very nice mummy . If I sent my YS any fruit, I'd not be confident it'd get eaten .
sparkysmum
Ah Chucky, you've made me feel like a bad uni mum haha. Will have to organise parcels for sons 1 and 2 asap. Great suggestions here thankfully. Ax
Luvachicken
Ah Chucky, you've made me feel like a bad uni mum haha. Will have to organise parcels for sons 1 and 2 asap. Great suggestions here thankfully. Ax And me too. Mind you if I sent one to my son, who has only just started uni, I'm not sure what would go in it - he doesn't eat any fruit and the only veg he eats is potatoes
Chucky Mama
Last year I sent the occasional home made cake, stupidly large bar of chocolate, dried fruit and a few satsumas ( things he likes but wouldn't spend his limited funds on) along with any post. DD thought I was being daft so I stopped after about 6 months. In the summer we were talking an ES said that he and friend both received 'mummy parcels' and really missed them when they stopped. I loved sending them so am glad to restart..it won't be Ocado every time though! I doubt DD will think it is daft when she is at uni! chickencam
I have thought about homemade cake before now, but the post is so expensive since they came up with the new system of parcel sizing. I tend to send ED back with a few homemade goodies and homegrown veg, and eggs when she visits. She knows to come home with a large empty bag. Chucky Mama
I agree, the post is crazy now. That is part of why I went for an Ocado delivery. Also now that he isn't in halls it is more difficult as he will have to collect things from the sorting office. They are lucky boys though as their next door neighbour is an award winning jam maker. She took them some jam around last night They are going to make her some fresh bread as a thank you. All very civilised Dread to think of the state of their cleaning and laundry though! Pearls007
I always do an Ocado delivery at the beginning of each term for ES - much easier than either taking it all up in the car or slogging round the supermarket when you get there! Minnie&Moose
As an undergraduate (more than 30 years ago - eek!) I got cake parcels from my father - they were brilliant (he did a mean cherry and almond cake and his ginger cakes were heaven ). I still remember them very clearly, as do some of my original flat mates who also appreciated his culinary efforts! I think it's a great idea sending them things - I've spent the last week dealing with several new personal tutees (I'm a lecturer) who are already struggling with feelings of homesickness, panic and general misery - and not all of them are first years! The Dogmother
My mother used to work for M&S (head office) so would always pitch up at my house (bear in mind I was working at the time, no longer a student) with M&S food parcels for me. VERY much appreciated and delicious That's Italian mothers for you!
