New - Hello! + Chicken Order

Recommended Posts

Hello Omlet Forum! I am new and wanted to say hello (was looking for a newbie introduction thread but did not find one...) I am living in Washington, DC in a condo but have just put it on the market and purchased a tiny cottage in MD with a wee back garden. I'm planning for chickens. :-) (And bees...)

Ordering chickens from Omlet? I was researching which Eglu model was best for my situation (I think the Eglu Go) and realized that one also can order chickens at the same time. However, when you get to that part of the order screen, it allows one to select the number of chickens (up to four in the case of an Eglu Go), but it does not seem to let one select breed of chicken. Did I miss something?

And finally - Montgomery County, MD -- basic research on the County Ordinances related to chicken keeping in Montgomery County, MD reveals a great deal of confusion. Is anyone on here a chicken keeper in that locale?

Thanks so much and best to all!

Hello, and welcome to the forum - there is an 'introductions' thread, but you're very welcome to introduce yourself here. Sadly we have a very small proportion of US members, and so although we have a 'Nesting Box US' you may find you get more replies if you post in one of the specific sections such as Chickens or Eglus and Cubes.

I can't answer the question about delivery/breeds - Omlet in the UK usually offer two breeds, Gingernut and Pepperpot but I don't know about the US.

Chickens are fabulous fun, and you have a lot to look forward to. I'm going to move this thread into the UK Nesting Box, because looking at the US one "Ooops, word censored!"ody has posted in there for quite a while, although it's still open for use.

Thank you for welcoming me.

My gracious, I did not realize that there is a "Contact Us" link. I will do that! Thank you very much for pointing that out.

Both Pepperpots and Gingernuts were on my short-list of desired breeds, so I'm hopeful that they may offer either of those in the US as well.

The weather here is snowing! I believe that we were treated to 5 inches this morning. That amount completely shuts Washington, DC down, so it's a day of working in PJs!

Cheers to all!

Welcome, I am sure you will find all your questions answered quickly on this site, people are very welcoming and helpful. I was in Michigan but have moved to Dodge City, Kansas and they do not allow chickens. I had a go and just loved it. I have had to sell it and the new owners love it too. I am sure you will enjoy keeping chickens, they make wonderful pets. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum, as others have said it is a great place for advice.

Not only on chicken matters but life.

Chickens are great pets, I had both a Gingernut and a Pepperpot from Omlet when I started, they were both friendly but the Gingernut who we called Henny Penny was the friendliest girl I have had and I always say she taught me everything I know about keeping chickens, sadly she did not live as long as some of my other hybrids did.

Enjoy your chickens :D

Chrissie
