The Dogmother
A very hazy and cool start, but it's lovely now, sunny, breezy and pleasant.
Groovychook
Woke up with a killing headache this morning, swiftly followed by thundery downpours. Lots of heavy rain which we desperately needed. Sunny and warm at the moment.
The Dogmother
It was lovely this morning; 17deg with a cooling breeze. A sudden storm about 2.30pm, with the most torrential rain and a bit of thunder, it is much cooler now.
chickencam
We are in sunny Cornwall, we had rain overnight and until about 10am since then it has been sunny with the odd looming cloud passing over. Fab couple of days, long may it continue, cool breeze warm sunshine proper English summer
Valkyrie
It's been so much more pleasant for a few days, but I can feel it's warming up again - just popping down the end of the garden made me sticky again (and I don't mean the blinking aphids up the oak and hawthorns)! chickencam
Fabulous day in Cornwall, visited the Lost Gardens of Heligan and then paddled in the beach
The Dogmother
Been cooler here for a couple of days, with some rain. Lovely yesterday; absolutely gorgeous in the evening for our long walk.
Groovychook
Lovely here too in my part of Cornwall I'm hoping it's not going to get too hot here again in the near future. I've got an awful rash on my neck that is insatiably itchy. It started off with that last hot spell & won't go. I can't put anything on it- not even sunscreen as it burns and sets off the itching again. Thoroughly fed up with it! I want to be outside in this weather
chickencam
Sounds nasty, hopefully it will go away soon.
Groovychook
Thank you. Have just been to see the Nurse Practitioner who has diagnosed a severe allergic reaction to something. Have an intensive course of oral steroids to take so hopefully they will get rid of it! Glad you're having nice sunny weather for your hols though
chickencam
Just read an interesting article on the BBC website about giant Hogweed and the burns and rashes it can cause which can also make you sensitive to sunlight. I presume that you have had no contact with this?
Groovychook
That's interesting, there's a possibility I could have brushed by some in the lane but I'm so allergic to lots of things... could be anything. I've taken my first 6 tablets and after a couple of hours, the itch is a little easier. I feel ever so drowsy though so I'm glad it's just a 5 day course! Just edited to add that I've just seen the report you were referring to. Don't think it resembles mine (more a mass of individual hives) but those examples look so sore. The Dogmother
It's been lovely here, although I missed most of it as I was in a meeting all day Clouded over around 5pm, and is now overcast and sultry.
Valkyrie
We've had a very humid murky day - just a few glimpses of sun. This evening it was brighter, so went and locked the girls up, poo picked, hosed and looked up as it was getting dark really too quickly. Big weird clouds, so came in to check on the weather and FLASH BOOM! I didn't really need to know at that point! So some really heavy rain for a short spell and I can still see the pinky sunset on the horizon. I guess we are just on the edge of something moving on up. No more flashbang wallops though
The Dogmother
This week has been much cooler, although it got warmer yesterday and we had a lovely balmy evening. Not as warm today, but quite humid this evening with threatening clouds; I could hear distant thunder while out walking this evening, and it looked like we might get a downpour, but nothing happened. It's getting dark much earlier now
Valkyrie
Yes, winter is coming. The birds are going to bed earlier too. They are demanding to be fed at 4.30 now!
The Dogmother
Brrr, 9deg at 5am this morning - back into single figures, and I'm not sure that I am ready!
chickencam
Not sure what happened to the heatwave that we were meant to be having at the end of July, it looks pretty miserable for the next week or so. 15 degrees and raining here for tomorrow
soapdragon
Have just checked tomorrow's weather forecast (I use RAF Benson....about 5 mins down the road and usually VERY reliable) and its promising wall to wall very heavy rain tomorrow ALL day Probably my fault for moaning about the empty waterbut and non existent brook running through the village The garden is SO dry tho - I have some small lavender plants that I have been desperate to get in but the ground is so hard I can't plant them out! Maybe tomorrow Having said all that, the coolish, bright weather is great (sorry, sun worshipers!) much more comfortable for getting things done (apart from planting!) The Dogmother
It has been muggy and overcast here all day, and there are some really big clouds around. The Weather Channel app (really reliable) on my phone tells me that there is a weather warning for heavy winds and rain from 1pm Friday through until 10am on Saturday. I don't mind a bit of rough weather, and we really need the rain - the crops around here are starting to suffer now... they could do with a week of steady rain, then 3 weeks of hot sun to ripen them off for harvest. Purplemaniacs
Please no rain this evening. I bought OH tickets for the T20 at Leicester tonight for his birthday. It is the only T 20 cricket match that we have managed to go to this year. Please let the forecast be wrong. Chrissie
soapdragon
Hope the rain held off for your OH. At the moment its cold and belting down in South Oxfordshire......and its so DARK !

The Dogmother
Yes, I got in from walking the dogs and it's pretty dark. I have lit the stove as the indoor temperature was only 18deg, and a bit chilly. I am disappointed that the first water butt in my 'cascade' is only 2/3 full
