soapdragon
HOT already; I don't want to paint the bedroom today! Forecast cooler for the weekend 25 not 32! Seems like there is a nice breeze this morning but was sticky last night.
The Dogmother
Getting quite blowy here now, but still clear. Opened all the windows and doors first thing, and the house is lovely and cool.
Groovychook
It's a bit cloudy this morning and much cooler- I'm half expecting a bit of a shower.
Daphne
I keep hearing its going to be 35 in London, which can't be pleasant, and special measures required at Wimbledon. Here it is cool, in fact the sun is not yet up, after a couple of days at 41 at the weekend
chickencam
Already 32 here, didn't drop below 23 all night, hottest night I can remember for a long time very windy overnight but it was a hot wind
The Dogmother
Quite cloudy here now, perhaps we will get that rain....
Valkyrie
Another few rumbles at night but nothing much - ground stayed dry. DS said it rained a bit in Guildford but it was pleasant. Clear sky this morning and very warm. All cloudy now and humid. Sometimes there is a big breeze. I don't think it feels as hot as yesterday - unless I'm getting used to it! Groovychook
We've just had rumbles of thunder and a heavy shower. Only 23 deg today and very still but feels positively cool in comparison to yesterday.
soapdragon
Very hot in south Oxford.......garden thermo says 35 and thats in the shade! Good breeze tho. Heavy rain forecast for tomorrow and 10 degrees cooler. Mind you, the walls dried quickly...almost a shame not to slap another coat on A thunderstorm early evening would be lovely
The Dogmother
37deg when I left work! It's like walking through thick, hot soup... or living in the Far East! I am watering the garden and the dogs, will walk them later when it's a bit cooler.
Valkyrie
OH was driving out of London and his thermo was actually climbing instead of going down! Last read at 39 before we said tootle pip!
The Dogmother
We need 2 water butts-worth of rain here - I have 3, which I have put at different heights so that they cascade along the line as they fill; 2 of the 3 are now empty, and the last is 2/3rds full. soapdragon
Phew! Its even getting hard to breathe! Makes me wonder what the humidity rating is! The breeze has dropped completely so having the windows open does no good at all. Bedroom thermo reading 29. Great idea about the waterbutts at diff heights, DM will have to mention that to OH!!! The Dogmother
Great idea about the waterbutts at diff heights, DM will have to mention that to OH!!! You can get overflow kits, so pop them on stands, but add a slab or brick base under two so that they overfill along the line.
chickencam
Got very hot vigorously hoeing our allotment for an hour. Cold shower when we got home and I still didn't cool off everything is starting to look very dry, rain tomorrow apparently.
The Dogmother
Took the dogs out at 7.30pm, still hotter than I'd like for walking them, even in the woods. 29deg here outside, and 22deg indoors, which is hot for my house. No sign of rain clouds yet, and the breeze has dropped.
chickencam
We have a breeze now so I have opened all of the windows upstairs to their widest point and propped all the doors open in the hope that I can get rid of some of the heat. Poor chickens have spent the day panting and holding out their wings and they are down the side of the house which is largely shaded all day. I did consider hosing them down but I though that might distress them more. I have given them plenty of greens (lettuce and beetroot leaves) in the hope that they would help keep them cool with high liquid content.
The Dogmother
16deg at 6am, much cooler air, but no breeze at all. No rain aver night, but we're due some around lunchtime today. Chooks all fine this morning, and dogs enjoying the cool stone floor in the kitchen.
Blackrocksrock
Woke at 2.30am with really loud thunder overhead and bad lightening and it has cleared the air thankfully. Lovely and cool so far.
Alis girls
Yesterday took a leaf out of OH's Aunt Olga;s book (RIP ) she lived in Cyprus and would walk around with wet tea towel on her head Irish linen only. I lay in front of fan last night with a cold wet towel and OH and ES roared with laughter. Get lost I said - I am English and pathetic and cant cope with the heat. I washed my feet in cold water at work and on the walk to the car found someone had left a sprinkler on so stood next to it. A girl has to do what she can to stay cool. The Dogmother
After dark clouds coming and going most of the day, we had a couple of very heavy showers around 4pm. Now 16deg - 20deg cooler than the same time yesterday!
