That's brilliant, proper swimming. One of mine fell in my little pond which she swam across but she was flapping her wings a lot- more like flying on water.

Looked like she was walking to me. Chickens shouldn't be allowed access to water; they have polarised vision, so can't see the surface and their feathers aren't waterproofed like a duck's, so they just get waterlogged and sink.

Apparently the pond is 8 foot deep so she wasn't walking!

It's a great video, but I know at least one forum poster whose chicken drowned in her garden pond so I think she's a bit of an exception to the rule.

I like the way the other hens were running round the pool as if they were racing her! but then when she leapt out it looked like they were all on a mission!

I think as The Dogmother, that she was walking through a shallow pond. Was the video posted on April 1st by any chance?

I have never seen a chicken 'swim' as that one is - they don't have the required webbed feet - they usually flap about in water, and get very wet, then sink.
