E Bay feedback Question

Recommended Posts

Am I right, Oh Wise Ones, in saying that a seller cannot leave neutral or neg feedback but only comments?

My item arrived this morning with postage of £2.80 on it. As I had been charged £6.20 I was a bit miffed and e mailed the seller. He was very unhelpful, bordering on the aggresive and said that any discrepancy in postage was his profit! He says that, if I leave neutral (which I had planned to do with a comment like 'nice item but postage 2.80 not 6.20, as charged') he will neg me! I think this is imtimidating and have told him so!

Quite frankly, if he had just said sorry and admitted his mistake then I'd just have left it! However, from his comments he is clearly sore that the item only sold for 99p but I pointed out that he should have listed at a more realistic price for both item and postage - I did not know how big the package would be so assumed it would be the bigger 2nd class at 5.20.

He has otherwise good feedback (100% which is clearly why he is getting angry with me!) so I am surprised that he can't see why I am a bit miffed. I havn't left feedback yet as wanted to resolve things - if he just said sorry rather than telling me it his profit then I would'nt mind and prob not leave any feedback at all!

Sorry if this sounds rambly but I just wanted to check the situation!

Postage and packing costs can include things to wrap the item in, travel to the post office etc etc. Also, you agree to paying the P&P costs when you bid on the item. Annoying I know, but the seller has done nothing wrong.

You are correct...he cannot in any way leave a negative or neutral feedback for you.

In addition to this he is using threats against you to get non negative feedback for himself. This is VERY frowned upon so...............

Firstly, I would report him for his threat. There should be an option on your My eBay page next to the item in a drop down menu to do this. eBay need to know that his is using pressure to get positive feedback from you.

Secondly, because he has been threatening,I would NOT leave him neutral, I would leave him negative!

He is not going to say sorry because he isn't sorry. He has been rude & nasty & other eBayers need to know this.

Whatever you leave, keep an eye as he can comment in response to your feedback, but you can then comment further. He can't comment on it again, so you will get the last word if that is the way he wants to go.

He has not done nothing wrong - he is trying to force you not to leave anything other than positive feedback. If you feel the experience isn't positive FOR ANY REASON then you have the right to say so!

I agree that you went in knowing the P&P costs, but standards of packing vary, as do postal methods. It is a very big overcharge.

Hope it goes well. Don't feel bad about the feedback - he deserves it for his bad attitude frankly.

Thanks for this, peoples! I have not heard back from him and neither have I left feedback as I would rather resolve it by him just saying 'sorry I made a mistake' - I did point out to him that you can get a free leaflet from the PO detailing rates so its easy to check beforehand!

Point taken, Fred but not knowing how big the item would be I thought it was the 5.20 larger 2nd class! I think that you do have to trust people to charge fairly.

From his reply I do get the feeling he is sore that it only sold for 99p but I'd much rather have paid more for the item and a realistic postage cost - its a matter of principle really. I did point out that, if you list at 99p then you have to accept it may well only make that!

You could also reflect the postage in his "stars" for the price of p&p - you can give him between one and five stars - this sounds like it might be a 1 star job?

I know I overcharged someone for postage once - genuinely thinking post would cost much more than it actually did - I refunded the difference to the buyer - they didn't say thank you or even acknowledge, but I felt better!!!

Have heard nothing further from him and, if he does not get back in touch, I am inclined to write the whole thing off and just not leave any feedback at all. I did absolutley think that the item could be quite bulky as it was delicate and I assumed it would need lots of wrap so wasn't too surprised to think it could be £5.20, in which case £6.20 would not be too outrageous. However, one layer of bubblewrap and a reused cardboard box amounted to £2.80! Lucky it arrived on one piece really!

As a seller I have refunded on postage when I charged 2.80 standard parcel and managed to post it as a large letter; I think that that is more in the spirit of E bay. I am very happy to pay a bit more on top of the postage cost for packing/PO trip etc but do feel that 6.20 was excessive. I am quietly hoping I DONT hear anything back from him; I think that I have stated my case for him, just not sure he will have taken it on board!

Like mine the other day Hazel - "lovely item, shame about the smell of fag smoke".

Eeeks is their anything worse??

I sold my sofa in eBay last week. I had asked a charity if they wanted it but the shop was full and they had no storage, anyway....I had so many people asking if it was pet free smoke free home, I explained smoke free yes but dog free NO, but they don't go on the furniture (well not daily:)

Well the guy who arrived to collect and had asked the question stank of dirty old cigaret smoke, I could even smell it an hour or so later....rank.....

Can't add anything that hasn't been said before but from the other side of the fence, I have on a couple of occasions underestimated P&P and been caught out when I went to the PO. Strangely, I never got an offer of some money back  .

I always check the postage (where the amount is printed on the label) and,if someone has underestimated, I send extra to compensate. Especially if I got the item at a reasonable price.
