Delayed graduation

Recommended Posts

Sadly, my lovely ES failed a half module by 5% in his final year so couldn't graduate in July :( . He re-sat it 2 weeks later and passed but has to wait until November to be told his degree award and attend a graduation ceremony.

I was very disappointed (but managed not to show it!) but have got over that now, realising that it really doesn't matter - he will have a degree at the end and no-one will know he had a resit (his first ever in 4 years, silly boy  ).

I'm still very proud of him and he is now applying to do a post-grad in Forensics and Digital Security at a uni a couple of miles from home so will be living with us for a while, which is great as he's a joy to have about the house 8) .

Annoyingly, his current uni are changing the rules so you're allowed one marginal fail in a non-core subject each year and won't have to resit. If only they'd done that for this year :wall: .

So, here's our non-graduation photo (his 22nd birthday instead!) :D

Congratulations to ES, he has done very well (it takes guts to pick yourself up and get on with it after a disappointment like that). Look at it this way, it just gives you a bit longer to look forward to his graduation, when you will still be bursting with pride!

I know the rules were changed when I was mid-degree, my year didn't "benefit" from the change, but the year below us did, we all felt cheated at the time, but in the general scheme of things it doesn't matter.

Should change that title to delayed graduation :D Forensics and Digital Security post grad should be fun, I'd love to do that 8)

Well done on retaking the module and passing so soon after. He must be disappointed but it won't ever matter in the future.

I changed direction twice at the a-levels/degree stage before I found the right subject and have never once been asked about it at an interview. I can understand why no one asks now  but I had expected interviewers to ask the first few years.

'Getting there' is important BUT the journey is too! He made it and all kudos to him - hard work and application all the way! A fascinating subject ...what are his career plans having got the degree  ?

Lovely photo and obviously a very proud mum! I am the titch in my family too and I an 5'6! Mum, Dad and YS are all taller than me and dad's side are all 6 foot plus! My boys, 10 and 6.5 are tall for their age and I fear I will continue to be the smaller one  Not helpful when I am craning my neck at them in a few years time and insisitng on room tidying

Good luck and success for the future to your lad!
