I got new girls on saturday. Now with pictures.

Recommended Posts

With all of my attention lavished on Queenie the last few days, I hadn't got round to telling you all that I got some new girls on Saturday.

I chose 2 lavender pekins - which I have been after for ages, a millefleur pekin and a lemon cuckoo pekin.

The 2 lavenders seem to be best friends and follow each other everywhere. If I remember right they are about 12 weeks old.

And the other 2 are friends too and again if I remember are about 16 weeks old - but do look bigger than my original pekins

Hubby has split the run in half for me and made them a lot of perches, which they love.

They are all very pretty and still make little chick noises :D

I will take pictures soon when I'm not so busy with Queenie.

Yes, I think I got myself some early Christmas presents and that I needed them after feeling poorly for such a while :D

They did manage to find their bedroom tonight so that was good

Still haven't decided on names though - we have only come up with silly names like puddle and custard. I need some nice girly names. I did think about Holly and Ivy but I don't really like the name Ivy.

And pixiedust .... you could always get pekins next time ..... they are small, fluffy puffballs and very easy to tame.

Mind you, one of my new ones shouts so loudly once she realises you are trying to pick her up. Never heard anything quite like it

My xmas ex-batts were Holly, Berry and Mistletoe, if that helps. They were heading for being Jolly, Merry and Tiddly, but my nephew persuaded me out of that.

Also in the running at the time - Present, Past and Future, or Peace, Prayer and Wish - but then I put the bottle back in the fridge and went for a little lie down ...

I had totally different names in mind for these two, but Myrtle just looked like a Myrtle, and Marguerite fitted with Myrtle. Names will probably happen when you least expect it :D

Mine were all names beginning with A and my next group will begin with B. I also decided that I would choose quite old-fashioned names and names of elderly Aunts from my past :D

My three were Agatha, Annie and Agnes.

Agnes is the only one still with us and has enjoyed over 3 and 1/2 years of freedom.

I hope to get some more ex batts in the new year now that my chicken numbers have dropped recently.

Ooh, they sound gorgeous, Leanne. Wd love to see your porcelain pics when they're available. Do you have a millefleur cockerel and lavender hen or vice versa - or doesn't it matter?

I called my lavender pekin Lavinia.(To my great surprise, at the age of 22 weeks she's just started laying every other day. I'd thought they all stopped in the winter.) A porcelain might be Portia....or maybe Pauline. Or Priscilla.... :)

It doesn't work like that if you cross a lavender with a milliefleur you will just get black with a gold neckband normally genetics muddle my brain lol you have to have a complete porcelain group I have 2 boys with 5 girls and you put a light millie to porcelain to try and get a better marked bird so I have kept back 4 lovely millie frizzles to go with Rupert 1 next year I have porcelain eggs under broodys due next week lol leanne :)

Porcelains next time

You can't have the name custard luvachicken  leanne :)

Why not ???

The lemon one just reminds me of a big blob of custard - in the nicest possible way :lol:

Anyway, I love the suggestion of Zoe and Chloe for the twins, so thanks for that jeshen and we came up with Polly for the millefleur ( she squawks like a parrot when you try to catch her ) and Tilly for the lemon cuckoo.

Will post pictures soon once we have sorted which twin is which

It will probably have to Monday as MIL is coming to stay for the w'end and she doesn't do chickens
