Country pub with accommodation search.

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a country pub with rooms and a log fire to take my hubby away for his birthday (18th Feb so needs to be around then). I was thinking of the Cotswolds as it isn't too far away from us (Salisbury) and it is beautiful too. Does anyone know of anywhere that would be suitable? Maybe somewhere you have been? It doesn't need to be Cotswolds, it can be anywhere approx 2 hours away from Salisbury.

The Fleece is lovely CC, we stop by there when we are going that way as they are very accommodating about the dogs coming in to lie by the fire.

The Falkland Arms in Great Tew is very near us; lovely, tiny privately owned village. The pub is great, with open fires and live folk music most weekends, they had gypsy jazz on new year's eve 8)

Otherwise.... not a pub... but really lovely is The Old Posthouse in Deddington; Owned by friends, this has open fires, and a 4-poster bed too! VERY welcoming, and the best breakfasts this side of anywhere!

We are right on the edge of the Cotswolds here, so I'm happy to advise on the area. I can recommend that you read Rough Guide to The Cotswolds (written by another friend  ) I can lend you a copy if you like.

Some fab suggestions, thank you! Have bookmarked them for future reference, though The Manor House is a tad too pricey for us Spacechick, it does look lovely. We have found this place and so hopefully have booked a room there

Does anyone know Cold Aston at all? I have found a walk around there, but if you know of any you'd like to share that would be wonderful :D

Cold Aston is lovely, lots of walks around there. It's worth taking a torch if you have a dog who needs to go out last thing - it tends to be rather dark!!!

Not sure when you're going, but everywhere's a tad muddy, so wellies/stout walking boots are a must.

Far too many nice walks to mention, Upper and Lower Slaughter are lovely and you are not far from Bourton on the Water!

It's a long time since I've been to the Plough, but it was lovely the last time I went.

That's good to hear Bramble :D We are going on the 21st Feb so right in winter  Will bring wellies etc with us and a torch. Not taking the dog this time as she doesn't do well with strangers and will end up barking in our room, if our trip last year to Torquay with her is anything to go by. A shame, as they allow dogs, but it's her own fault :shameonu: I am just looking forward to sitting by a log fire, glass of red in hand and knowing we don't have to walk anywhere to get to bed, apart from upstairs to our room :D Good if it's dark, let's hope for clear skies and can do a bit of star gazing. The best starry sky I have ever seen was in Dumfries several years ago. So dark you couldn't see your hand right in front of your face and the sky was amazing!

I would think at that time there will be a few snowdrop weekends at that time - Batsford Arboretum near Moreton (in Marsh) have one that weekend http://www.batsarb.co.uk/news-events/events.asp and Batsford is always worth a trip!

I wouldn't worry too much about having a barky dog - the pubs around here are (generally) VERY doggy orientated - I think the Plough even has designated horse parking!!!
